Windsheild Scratch
I'll tell you the more I try to keep my black truck clean the worse it gets now to top it off I am always crazy about keeping new wipers refills because they are get worthless in the Florida sun...So anyway when you use Rain-X its great except I think it doesnt help the wipers slide real well. I am driving thru a hurricane downpour and I hear this scratching noise come to find the track on the middle of the wiper blade broke and the wiper is making contact with the winshield and puts a light scratch in winshield the whole length of travel (luckily I heard it and shut off the wipers and just drove down the interstate with the Rain-X altho I really needed the wipers too) any way to remove the scratch I have tried jewelers rouge its seems to go away until the glass gets wet and it comes back...I am definetly mad

I've read if the scratch isn't too bad you can use something with acetone in it, like finger nail polish. Not sure how well it works but its worth a shot.

you can use regular body wax as well to get it out for a while. It usually works for about two months

Someone rubbed up against my drivers side window of my car or something and put a big patch of scratches in it a couple yrs ago. I used that Meguire's Scratch X stuff and tried to buff them out with that and it worked really well, just was too fine I think and I got tired of rubbing. But depending on how "light" it is that would work or a slightly lower "grit" compound. And this would obviously be permanent.

I remember seeing on TV that someone makes a glass polishing kit that will remove fine scratches..Saw it on the Mothers Car show on ESPN.

I installed windshields one summer in highschool, and a buffer and compound is what we used to take out scratches religiously. I forgot what the compound was we used, but that's a good idea if you use a fine enough compound.

I think it was something like cerium oxide powder..?? We used the generic bulk stuff, but it's made for windshields. There's supposed to be a certain type of buffer for glass too, but depending on how deep the scratches are I would just do it by hand. Like I said also, the Scratch X is VERY fine and worked on my window buffing by hand. Hope this helped..

One more thing, don't worry too much about using something that's too coarse. I can't imagine any compound that is safe for use on a vehicle's finish being able to hurt your w/s.

I think the jewelers rouge worked the best and then I also buffed with some Meguiers #2 polish
now to the next problem I have a problem with windsheild wiper chattering I have tried everything new blades different brands etc I sometimes think its the RainX that does it so I took off RainX waxed my windsheild and it still does it its annoying. thats how come the refill broke one nite and scratched the windsheild any sugguestions I just put on new blades 2 weeks ago I am thinking off taking some sandpaper to the rubber I mean they do not streak it must be the shape of the windsheild is there a way to back off the wiper arm pressure? Its annoying as hell I like the RainX so I dont have to use the chatter wipers!!! |

Hey saw you had some scratches...same here, but I cant get mine out....also im in west palm beach...so i know how those refills wear out quick - heres a great fix for your w/s scratches
if you have full coverage insurance - call your ins. company and say a coconut fell on your w/s and you ARE ALREADY AT a glass repair shop or just goto the glass shop and they will stick a new w/s in your truck and bill your insurance company - i know a guy who replaces w/s and he said you have to have FULL coverage and just go there and they do it - your ins wont ask any questions |

Anyone else got anything to remove glass scratches? I focked my windsheild up bad today with a scratch pad. I mean bad. I have a $500 deductible so insurance isn't a good solution for me.

I am a detailer and we use some of glass welds products. They work really well but it makes a bit of a mess. dont know if they will sell to general public though.
