Unhappy Wierd film on wheels

Lately I've been noticing this wierd waves on my stock ZQ8 wheels. It looks like grime or some kind of film, but it won't rub it off and I can't feel any difference. Washing the wheels doesn't seem to affect it either. Is the wheel just getting old? Sorry it's so vague. I'll try to put up some pictures tomorrow.

Re: Wierd film on wheels

Thats the clearcoat going bad. It's a pretty common problem with GM wheels. The only real fix is to strip the clearcoat off and polish them like an aftermarket aluminum wheel or after polishng you can re-clear coat them to get the factory apperance and durability back.

Whatever you do, don't use aluminum polish over the clearcoat. It'll only make it worse. Regular car wax is the best to use on a clear coated wheel.

Re: Wierd film on wheels

I finally got around to polishing my wheels this weekend and they look much better. Now all I need is a buffer to make it look super nice.

Thanks again guys!

Yeah I found out about the aluminum polish the hard way. Just a little dab of turtle wax and they shine like chrome though.

Crap I've been using that mothers polish for a while. I didn't know it will mess it up cause it was taking everything off. I won't do that anymore.
