when to clay bar

i use the meguiars 3 step deep crystal system and i was wondering when do i clay.

here are the steps

step 1:
Paint Cleaner;
removes bonded cpntaminats light swirls, scratches & oxidation
step 2:
Polish;
creates explosive paint color deep show reflections
step 3:
Carnauba Wax:
provides he ultimate in Carnauba wax protection

also will step 1 help take the tar off my truck or do i just need to get some bug and tar remover

Re: when to clay bar

I do it right after I wash. After everything is washed and rinsed i'll get a fresh bucket of car wash soap and clay using it instead of the clay lube. I put my wash mit on one hand and the claybar in the other.

Re: when to clay bar

Ok, Step 1. Wash the truck with Dawn Soap (Blue kind) this will remove all of the wax.
Step 2. Clay bar the truck
Step 3. Use the meguairs step 1, step 2, than step 3 like you normally would.

They sell bug and tar remover at Autozone, ADvanced auto, etc... ITs in a green bottle. It'll work good.

Re: when to clay bar

Put gasoline in a spray bottle. It wont hurt the paint as long as you wash it afterwards. Makes it really fast. i use it on my truck every time I clean it.

Re: when to clay bar

there's also a product by Dominion Sure Seal company called Sure Solve.
It will remove tar, grime, gum, glues, adhesives, old wax, everything, nice and clean!
It is meant for clear coats... doesn't hurt it!

Re: when to clay bar

Ack ! That's quite a bit of tar if I see what I think I see...

I'd recommend going to a place that sells body shop products and get yourself some "Wax and Grease" remover. It should take off all the tar without a problem, and not hurt your paint. Make sure once you got it clean that you take the time to at the very least apply a coat of wax. I would personally clay, then polish, then seal and wax after something like that.

I agree
3M makes a good product and believe it or not..., you can sometimes find it at Wal-Mart or Autozone.

I was at O'Rielly auto parts today and they are now mixing and selling paint!!!
Now I have 3 paint suppliers in town

I wish I could find a supplier for a quality high heat paint (not the rattle can stuff) for engine parts, etc...

For tar, try Kerosene.
It will not harm the paint and will remove the tar
