wheel waxing

i read on some car care website that i should polish and wax my wheels...i've heard of people polishing, but how many of you actually wax your wheels? is it just somethin stupid i read, something for painted wheels or somethin i just didnt know ?right now i just have the stock swirleys

The guy where i bought my chrome wheels, said to put a light coat of wax on them. I haven't done it yet, though.

It doesn't really matter. You can use either. I personally use Meguiars wax.

There is specific wheel wax, poorboys makes a wheel sealant, same thing. Theres a few more also. I seal the wheels on a lot of customers cars. Makes it so much easier to wash the brake dust and stuff off.

Chrome wheels have a clear coat, and the wax protects the finish on the wheels just like it does on the paint. You can either use a carnauba wax, or you can use a wheel wax. My wheels are polished aluminum, and I wax them probably about once a year, and I usually polish them about 1-3 times a week, or as often as needed, and I never wax until I've polished.... you should never try to wax a dirty surface.

i polish my polished aluminum rims all the damn time. gets really old.. haha on top of the fact i have never found anything thing that works that great. only thing that works somewhat is mothers powerball with there aluminum polish, but yeah i would wash and wax them as much as possible because IMO the better you take care of them or the better protective coating you have on them.. the longer they will last.

i wax my chrome rims every other month or so keeps them shining and keeps the brake dust eazy to just wash off, when i worked detailing we used to wax all the vett rims that got sold. use a good paste wax

i have polished alum wheels and i polish them every week when i wash the truck and as a final step in polishing i wax them. it makes it easier to clean.

I waxed my wheels with paste every 6 months, and before I store my car away for winter. Also everytime I wash my truck I just use the spray wax. I just got my 18's mounted they are aluminum with chrome finish I bought some wax and will more than likely do it today or tomorrow. It is a pain but as much as I just spent on wheels, I will take the time to keep them nice and shiny. Another thing for some of you if you guys pop off your wheels to clean them or the inside, use a socket that has like nylon inside so it doesn't take the chrome or paint off the lug nuts. I had that problem with some chrome ones one on my car. I can tell they barely have any chrome on them at all to start with.

Agree. It helps the brake dust from sticking/embedding in the wheel. Which in turn, makes the wheel easier to clean.

Use a dedicated wheel wax/sealant. They are forumalted to withstand higher temperatures.

I have polished aluminum wheels that have no clear. I usually wet sand them every spring, and repolish to a mirror finish. As aluminum oxidizes slowly over time I wax'em every wash & after every polish to slow down the oxidization. Much like you're mothers good dinner wear, aluminum starts to get a gold tinge to it over time.

Finding a good wax that doesnt oil the finish is difficult. Best result I've seen is Turtlewax, worst is Ice.
