What's a good rim cleaner and polisher?

Here are the set of rims I have:

Since they are painted black and not chrome, what would be a good product that is safe to use on painted rims to clean it and then to polish them?

First, be careful w/ Hot Rims, I've heard quite a few stories of it damaging wheels. Must be careful w/ that stuff,... its Strong!

Now, obviously soap and water is going to be the most gentle on the finish. However, soapy water doesnt always do the trick. Heres what I'd do if you need a little more than soap and water. Prespray w/ p21s wheel gel. Let it sit for a few minutes then wash using a dedicated wash mitt (use an ez detail brush to clean the inner barrels) and then when you're all done, apply a coat of poorboys wheel sealant. It'll make future cleanings MUCh easier! And you're all set. you now have clean wheels

btw, if they're clearcoated and you need to polish them, use a polish that you would normally use on paint and not a metal polish, which could potentially marr the clear on them. If theres no clear, then metal polish til your hearts content

Re: What's a good rim cleaner and polisher?

P21s wheel cleaner is nice, but pricey. Those wheels are clearcoated so they really shouldnt need much other than soap and water to clean. If they are really dirty, a local parts store probably has somekind of degreaser in a concentrate. I would buy that and dillute it a little more than the reccomended specs accoding to which one you get. Theres going to be something on the back of the bottle most likely that will tell you the dillution rates.

As stated earlier, a wax/sealant on the wheels does wonders for ease of cleaning. I dont see a neccesity to buy the PB wheel wax, since its pretty pricey for what you get. Your wheels are clear coated, so they should be treated like your paint. I would use whatever you have for your paint, on your wheels.

I use Collinite 476s and 845 for my Corvette wheels. Both are cheaper and last a long time, I get months of protection EASY. I cant comment on the PB wheel wax because Ive never used it. Ive never really had the need to try anything else because Im happy with the way the Collinite works. BUT this is my opinion and what I use, everyones gonna have a different product/story

Re: What's a good rim cleaner and polisher?

Thanks for the help guys. What wax would you recommend? I've used mother's wax for my truck for years. I heard it was good. So putting polishing my rims with wax is ok?

You should not need to polish your wheels since they are clearcoated. By polish I am talking something with some abrasives in it that will take out any marks and whatnot. Waxes are what protect the wheels. I am a big fan of Collinite 476s.

Thin light coats work wonders.
