what works best to keep the plastic mirriors black?
Anybody got a good product to put on the side mirrors to make them look shiny black like they used to be? Mine are getting faded and I wasn't sure if I can use my zaino stuff or tire spray on the mirrors. Any suggestions?

they have a product out that we get at the shop for unpainted black surfaces like moldings and door handles and stuff, what we get is call BumperKote. Its like a gel type stuff that you use sparingly cus a lil spot on a rag goes a long way. Just go to a local auto parts store and ask if they have any type of that stuff...my friends dad found another product similar to BumperKote at Advanced or AutoZone...

Mothers Back-To-Black also works great. Or Meguires Gold Class Liqid wax works good on them and doesn't turn them white

Meguiar's has a bumper and plastic trim product. Works great on these types of things

Re: what works best to keep the plastic mirriors black?
Since my truck was new I've always coated the mirrors and all other black trim with Zaino when I did the rest of the truck. They are still nice and shiny black. The mirrors on my Jimmy were kinds dull so I polished them with polish before putting wax on them.
I would recommend against dressings because they don't return the shine, they are just a coating to make it shiny. Plus you have to reapply them regularly. Steve Last edited by SteveI : 04-23-2004 at 04:12 PM. |

Steve is right, if you keep them waxed & coated from the get go, it comes right off & keeps them new. Once they are aged it usually doesnt work to well. All those trim shiners suck IMO.

Re: what works best to keep the plastic mirriors black?
I've always suggested having the mirrors painted - anyone can suggest a trim restorer, but its all like tire shine. If you want your mirrors to look like your body, paint them, and have a generous coat of clear coat applied to them. Even if you can restore the mirror to the point where it shines black you could apply a layer of clear coat to give it a preserving shine.

I use Plexus plastic cleaner. It cleans, polishes and protects all plastic and some painted surfaces. You can find them in motorcycle parts counters. I love the stuff, I also use it on my taillights to make them shiny.

Re: what works best to keep the plastic mirriors black?
I ordered some today online. Despite being polished 3 weeks ago my Jimmy mirrors are looking dull again. I'll let everyone know how the Plexus works. Steve |
