Question What wax do you guys use and polisher

I have a porter cable 7336 and I use eagle ones nano wax. But, what steps do you guys use to give it the ultimate wax job like swirl remover, carnuba wax,etc... Please list your steps, i highly appreciate it. Also what type of pads for your polisher. I was thinking of ordering lake countrys pads. But what the hell is all the different pads for?http://www.properautocare.com/hi612infopaa.html and another one http://www.properautocare.com/coprorpopa.html which would be good enough I do, not feel like buying all!!

Go with the Edge 2000 system, it's the best investment you can make for the PC. I don't have the 6" pads for my PC, but I've got a set of foam and a set of wool pads for my rotary and they kick ass. The blue final polish pad leaves no swirls and an oustanding gloss with any mild polish. Plus, both sides of the pads are useable, so the pad lasts twice as long. Aaron from Edge told me that you should get about 12-14 details out of each side, that's pretty good if you ask me.

I use exclusively Presta polishes right now. They're partners with Edge and their polishes are color coded to the Edge pads. It improved my rotary skill in no time.
On most details I'll do a two-step polish. I'll start out with either the wool or foam Edge pad and 1500 polish then do a final with the blue pad and Presta Swirl Remover. I usually don't use a polish with a lot of abrasives unless the car is heavily damaged or I'm cutting out scratches. After the polish I usually spread a sealant or carnauba via PC and a Meguiars finishing pad, about speed 3. What really cuts down on waxing time is placing beads of wax all over one half of the car,and just picking up on those beads and spreading the wax around as you go. I can do a coat of Longevity sealant on my dads CCSB in about 10-15 minutes tops, it's awesome.
I'm one of the few that use the Presta/Edge system, and I'm the only one that I know of on Detailcity.com that uses it. It's such an incredible and easy to use system, even with a PC. It's sad that it hasn't caught on faster. But, at the same time, it took YEARS for people to really acknowledge the Velcro system too. Hook and Loop is finally on it's way out IMO

I started practicing with a rotary before I bought my PC, so I've never done any real work with the PC. I've tried it out on a panel or two to see what the results would be, but I love the speed/ease of use of the rotary. Presta's 1500 polish does do a great job with a Megs 6" cutting pad though. It doesn't remove all the imperfections, but for a mildly abrasive polish it does a great job.

Do you have any polishes yet? If not, I'd look at Menzerna and Poorboys. I've seen some oustanding work when these polishes are used with the PC. The most important thing to remeber when using a D/A or orbital polisher is that it does take time to get the results you want. The amount of passes per panel and how long you have to work the polish in can vary. The easiest way to get great results is to work the polish until you can't work it anymore or you can see a definate improvement

Re: What wax do you guys use and polisher

Wash and clay first.

For scratches i'll spot use Meg's ScratchX

For swirls I use Poorboys SSR2.5, Einzsett Paint Polish or Metallic Polish Wax, or Meg's 83 or 9 all with a Porter Cable. For moderate to heavy swirls I use a Meg's burgendy cutting pad, for light swirls I use a polishing pad.

I use Zaino on my truck but if you want to use wax then use it as your last step. Plenty to choose from and all have great results, right now I have Meguairs #16, Souveran, and NXT tech wax.

Re: What wax do you guys use and polisher

I been researching on the on the menzerna products. And it sounds like there really, really , really good. Have any of you tried it. I am in the process of ordering there whole set. Also is mothers power wax and the swirl remover good? I want a wax and swirl remover that is really proven to be proffessional quality. Not, the crappy ones, Something that will give it a true shine that will last lots of months.

I've had a sample bottle of the Menzerna Intensive polish and I liked it a lot. One of these days I'm going to order some more, along with some Poorboys stuff and give it a shot.
I've never heard of the power wax and swirl remover though...If it's a decent price it's worth a shot

Re: What wax do you guys use and polisher

meguirar's 6 26 once a month or 2 and before shows nxt and depending on the day nxt detailer. don't use 6 every cleaning just if it really really looks bad. I do it by hand with a new foam pad and clean baby towel with each step. Never in the sun there are times I have to do it at night in the summer otherwise it looks like crap waxing in the sun. I think that's what I use can't remember I'll go to the garage and see what I got out there tomorrow.

They are really good. The initial price of the pad usually costs more, but one double sided pad also costs lesss than two single sided pads.
Edge just came out with a new design too, Wave Waffle Pads. Until now, I think 3M was the only company that made them. The advantages to the WW design are that the product doesn't sling off as much and the pad doesn't "grab" the surface as much. I don't know if they work better than normal pads on a PC, bu when my local P&S dist. gets them in I'll be spending more $

Shoulda ordered the Edge pads

One thing I never really thought about, the Velcro backing plate really rips into foam pads with a D/A, that orital motion rips the velcro right off. If you start to notice this, don't go thinking the pads are garbage, it happened to my Megs pads when I first got my PC. In the future though, look into Edge pads
And in case you're wonering, I don't get a commission for trying to sell their pads to people, I'm just a strong believer

You already gave it away you dueche, you said I could get it for 50% off

Anyway, yes Optimum Polish kicks some ass alrighty. I cleaned up my neighbors 4_runner today, I had some deeper scratches to buff out for her, while I was looking over the car I found a few light ones that needed to be removed. A quick dab with Optimum and the yellow Edge pad took to fuggers out the second pass of the pad. That's what I call quick

I have finally polish my truck, and I use the orange pad with the intensive, the white with the final and the red with fmj!! damn, does my truck shiny now!! But, I notce that I still have a lot of swirls!! I did at 5000 opm on the orange. Should I just go ahead and buy me a rotary buffer? Need something that can really remove my swirls!

Re: What wax do you guys use and polisher

The PC should remove almost all of them, how long did you work the polishes in for? I'd try the IP on one panel again and work it until it's almost gone, hit it with FP and see if the swirls are gone.
If not, a rotary will give you the results you want. If you can, try practicing on another persons vehicle, if you can't then work on the tailgate or something, you've got a pretty flat surface to work with and no edges to catch. Using one really isn't as hard as most people think. Just learn the basics and make your own technique from there, that's how I learned

Re: What wax do you guys use and polisher

During the rare times that I use my PC for polishing I almost always run it on 6 and get good results.. It might not need to be run that high for the polishes to properly break down, but with an orbital you're not getting the same amount of heat either. There's all sorts of variables when using an obirtal, ie paint condition, polishes/pads used, amount of pressure you use, speed of the machine, weather conditions, etc.
The best thing you can do is practice. Just pick a panel and start polishing with it on 6, it should break down relatively quick. Keep going until you get the results you're after. Pewter isn't too hard a color to work with and you can get away with some stuff left alone, the metal flake seems to hide a lot of stuff. If you still don't get the results you want, then invest in a rotary and a couple pads to start with and buff away
