What to buff with?

Hey guys I just got a 00' Sonoma that is the dark (indigo?) blue and it has good looking paint, it just has a bunch of real small scratches and imperfections and what not. From what I understand a buffer and a lot of my time will make it all better. I guess what I need to know is what kind of buffer pad should I use, and what should I buff with, some kind of rubbing compound, something that is blue and matches the paint? I'm not sure on this and if there is anything else besides buffing I should do let me know.

Thanks
Dan

Hey thanks man I just now noticed this section existed. The sticky at the top is great and answers my questions.
