i am planning on wet sanding my whole truck to remove the little swirl marks (yes it is black) and the fine scratches on the top of the bed and down the side. what grit sand paper is best for wet sanding but not so rough to remove the clear? and i have another question. the previous owner had this gay blueish stripe put on the body. my truck is a two tone and the stripe is on the bottom silver, what would be the best way to remove this stripe and the gay light blue pinstripe that goes along with it on the fender flares and the tailgate? would wet sanding the striping remove it, it is on top of the clear coat and it is painted on. my truck is a 94 so it has some slight damage to the paint in areas the hood and front bumper are the worst with rock chips how would you go about repairing those chips? i didnt really want to repaint the truck just a quick fix and get it painted in the spring when i have the money and it is warm enough in my shop for the paint to cure. i am planning on putting some zq8 wheels on it this spring too. where can you can you find a nice set of new or used zq8 wheels? it will be my little toy. i am planning on getting the head ported and polished, new cam and roller rockers, going to replace all the internals with new ones, going to put on a new larger tb, a long tube header (yes i said header it is a 2.2) and a powedyne supercharger. i have a friend who just built his lil 2.2 up like this and he is getting 280 hp at the rear wheels. i want to get a rebuilt tranny and set it in the garage so when i destroy the original one it wont be off the road for more than a day. right now it is my daily driver but it just bought a 97 saturn sc1 cuz i have a cummute to work and i needed more than the mileage i was getting. sorry for writing a novel i am just trying to get the most out of my 12 year old truck
thanks |

Re: wet sanding
wet sanding, for a paint job thats 12 years old i would sand 2000 grit and real light. you can hit the pin stripe with the wet sanding. i would just be real careful because the clear coat is probably very thin. with the nicks the right way would be to feather it back and then paint but if you just want a quick fix, get touch up paint drop it in and then wet sand smooth, should blend in okay.....use a soft block and spray bottle makes things easier....thats how i did mine
