Waxing my truck
I was in the autoparts store today just looking around and started looking at the waxes. I have heard good things about Zymol, Mothers and Mcguires. The one thing I was looking at was the Mcguires 3 step process and the Mcguires wax that is in the round, black cup thing (dont remember what is was called). But basically I was wondering what you guys thought the best wax was. Both of these waxes that I was lookign at said that it got rid of small scratches and and swirl marks since I've got a few on my truck and want to get rid of them. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

One more thing. Should I use the circle pads, the yellow terry cloths or the white cotton diaper type things that they sell in autoparts stores?

The gold class didn't really help get swirl marks out of my IROC. It's black. I have yet to use it on the X. I also have Zymol but havn't used it yet either.

I have a black X. Swirls suck ass. I have come to the conclusion there is noway to prevent them. I am so carful when I wash and dry it off, but I always end up adding more swirls. I am giving my truck the full treatment this weekend.
- Wash - Mothers Claybar - Meguiar's Scratch X - Meguiar's Polish - Meguiar's Gold Class Wax I will let you know how it turns out. Last edited by king_nothn : 07-18-2003 at 04:09 PM. |

If you want your ride to gleem and sparkle, your gonna have to
go with the stuff those with 10,000 paint jobs use. The products aren't cheap, but once you get it on your ride, you'll know why. Ask any custom painter/detailer who knows their business about Zaino Bros products...Ck out the site. It has some excellant tips in it. The wax's are one of a kind. Killer. www.zainostore.com |

HOLY CRAP! My truck turned out amazing. Looks like new. almost NO swirls. Here is my review and what I did.
Wash. Just normal wash, get all the dirt off. Then dry it off. Mothers Clay Bar. This stuff is really amazing. I would run my hand of the paint and I could feel all kinds of bumps and it was just really rough. I used the clay bar with the included lub on the entire truck. The paint felt like glass afterwards. Totally smooth. Meguiars Scratch X. Applied with a foam applicator on the entire truck and then removed with terry cloth. This got rid of a good amount of swirls and minor scratches. After I did this, the paint was really starting to look good. Meguiars #2 Deep Crystal Polish. Applied with foam applicator and removed with terry cloth. Did this on the entire truck. At this point, it looked like the truck was brand new again. It made my black paint look really deep and dark. I was honestly schocked how damn good it looked. Meguiars Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax. Final step to protect everything. This was the final though. Used foam applicator then buffed out with terry cloth. This stuff requires some effort to buff out, but well worth it. Overall. I'm amazed. My doors had some serious swirl marks and they were just starting to look crappy. Now, there are no swirls and the paint looks so deep and dark. Cool!! Thanks King, that sounds like the tlc mine needs. Only thing is I tried that Mothers clay bar thing with the lube once on my black car and it didn't work at all. Using it exactly according to directions, I think it was putting MORE scratches in my paint.

hmmmm... clay bar worked great for me. Just used that spray on a small area, then ran the clay across, you could feel/hear it take crap out. then just wiped off the lube with a terry cloth. The lub kinda left a mess, but never noticed it making scratches.
