Waxing -- best way??

This may sound like a very dumb question, but is there a "best" way to wax a vehicle? I've been told buy some guy at the gym that if its very cool outside (cloudy is also preferred), you can wax your whole truck first, then wipe it off (instead of doing each section at a time like I used to do). He said it will get rid of the oxidation better then wiping it off right away (doing each section at a time).Well, I did that yesterday (it was around 50 and cloudy) and it took me about an hour and a half to get all the wax off

So, for future information, what is the best way to wax a vehicle? Just do each section, wait a minute or two, then wipe it off?

Thanks in advance for any help or opinions

I let it dry good and get hazy then wipe it off.

I do a section at a time, just cause you can see what you've missed.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

It depends on the product you use..., all are different, for example-
Einszett Glanz Synthetic Wax, you apply to your applicator, wipe it on the body panel and in 30-60 seconds you wipe it off with no staining, build up or turning to "cement".

On the other hand, Zaino, you apply to the whole vehicle, then buff off when finishd drying.

So, you can see, there are differences in application according to the product you are using.
It is best to contact the person or company you have purchased from and ask for their advise on application.

Hope this helps

Werd. All depends on the product. All the products I use arn't WOWO. I usually leave Four Star UPP or Poorboy's EX on for at least an hour but usually its like 2 hours because its Sunday and I end up going inside to watch golf

Re: Waxing -- best way??

Maybe I put it on too heavy. It was a HUGE pain in the ass to get it off. Like I said, it took about an hour and a half (and that didn't include inside the bed). I had to put my shoulder and body into it to get it off. It wasn't just wiping it down.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I appreciate it

Re: Waxing -- best way??

For caunuba wax I prefer paste over liquid, souveran or megs #16 are the two i'm most familiar with and I do it in the shade or garage, never in the direct sun, and do a panel or two at a time and wipe off with a MF towel. You should be able to do an entire S-10 in a half hour. I prefer the paste because I get a nice thin even layer than I do with liquid.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

i bought a bottle of that new DuPont Teflon Spray Wax just to see how well it worked and just tried it out on my hood yesterday because i didn't have time to do the whole truck....that stuff was a b*tch to buff off by hand. i started buffing it out with a MF towel but it took forever to even start taking the wax off so i switched to the next softest towel that i had (terry cloth kitchen towel). the terry cloth towel took it off great and then i wiped it down with the MF towel. i dont think i got the wax on too thick but since my truck needs washed again i'll try it out again this weekend on the whole truck.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

Any wax or sealant that is quality "should" wipe off very very easy.
If you are applying pressure, more than likely you are going to cause marring and swirls in the paint.

When I wax, I only use a little more than the weight of the towel to remove the residue..., I do know that there are waxes and sealants that behave as you described, but there is no real reason to use them when there are many other choices.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

I bought the California Gold wax (I think thats the full name of it). I applied it on very heavily. Didn't notice until after I was all done waxing it. I did it all by hand. Again, I believe I applied it on too thick. There were some spots that wiped right off (when I first started) because the coating was light.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

I like using Mothers wax, and doing it a section at a time, usually in the garage so it doesn't "bake" in. And buff with a terry cloth towel and then a flannel to pick up anything I've missed, and if I feel like it I'll but out my orbital buffer for the extra shine.

I think I need one of those buffers. I just noticed this morning that there are still some tiny wax marks and they are a biotch to get off. I'm guessing a buffer will get them out pretty easy? Or no?

Re: Waxing -- best way??

We'll if you have never used a real orbital buffer...I suggest going with a Porter cable 7242 Dual Action Polisher...Too easy to f*ck shit up with an orbital.

As far as tiny "wax marks?" As in wax you've missed or it has smeared? Try a Quick Detail spray after finishing waxing. It will remove any left over wax residue.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

i use black magic and do 1 section at a time, i let it sit for about 2 or 3 minutes till it fogs up then buff it off with a lint free towel. Gets kinds hard to rub off if i wait more than 3 minutes ... then i gotta press hard and spend about 15 minutes on somethin small like the hood.

Yeah, I need to use my knuckles/fingernail covered with a towel to get it off. A quick detail spray doesn't work at this point. There are some small wax marks that look like scratches but just parts that I missed the day before.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

I use mothers cailfornia gold, but the liquid not the paste. I used to use the paste, but it seems to go on a lot thicker and dries MUCH faster, almost so you have no time to spread it around. the liquid is easy to spread and wipes off pretty quick. another thing to get wax off better would be to try a clay bar before waxing. I used this on my durango and it did wonders on making the paint silky smooth. After that the wax came right off with little pressure at all.

Re: Waxing -- best way??

any one ever use that Nu cote(ithink) orange bottle says once a year car wax. i use it about 2times a month but would it be better to use a buffer to apply it to and take it off or just take it off? i dunno ive never buffered my truck.

even after i washed my truck it still felt like there was crap on my hood and roof. nowhere else, so i washed it again with a little force and still nothin.
anyone recomend something to fix this prob?

I WANT SILKY SMOOTH PAINT! it used to be but i dunno what happened.
