Exactly. Its an all day job, but with a dark blue truck, it will be worth it when you are done.

Here is the process I used last and it turned out pretty damn nicee (and my truck is black).

- Wash
- Claybar
- Meguiars Scratch X
- Polish
- Wax

Do multiple coats of scratch X and polish to get ride of swirls, light scratches and to make your paint look deeper.

Everything you need to know about Clay Bar

Polish is mainly for removing swirls, light scratchs, or imperfections in clearcoat. It also restores oxidation which restores the glossyness of the paint. Basically restores the paint to a smooth finish.

Wax does what polish does but only to an extent. Its more designed as a protectant for the area that has been polished.

How often should this be done? Does the polishing and waxing have to be done with a buffer?

You can apply the polish and wax either by hand or with an orbital buffer. Both ways will work fine. I use an orbital buffer to apply because it's so much easier on my arm/hands and I end up not having to use as much product. Plus it gets applied more evenly.

I didn't know it was ok to use multiple coats of scratch-x and polish. I have been wondering how to get rid of my swirl marks I only used one coat of each and it didn't get rid of them all. Now I know. Thanks for the tips, guys.

Depends on how much of a clean freak you are. Some people do it every weekend, some every year. Personally I try to do the claybar, polish, wax at least every three months (as along with the washing and detailing, it usually turns into nearly a 7 hour job). I like to just apply a coat of wax at least every month.
