Wax decals

My decals say don't wax them. My turtle wax bottle says not to wax decals. Any reason behind this?

How do I wax my side when I have my decals? I'd have to do a small 2inch by 2inch piece at a time or somtehing?

Re: Wax decals

well if you wax stickers or decals, usually the wax builds up along the edge and it's a bitch to get off. usually have to use a rubber point, or a toothpick with a cloth on the end of it to go around the edge and get the wax off

Re: Wax decals

You can wax over them, been doing vinyl decals on vehicles for over 2+ yrs now. I see Kovz34's point about build up. Shouldn't be a problem at all unless you use a buffer and it peels the decal up.

i agree though. i usually wax them as well. i just make sure to get the stuff off the edges like i stated above.

for the record, i started using Turtle Wax ICE polish and you dont need to worry about any white residue or stuff like that on the rubber trim or around the edges of decals. ill still use Meguires cleaner wax from time to time, but i really like the shine i get from ICE.

Re: Wax decals

some waxes will deteriorate decals over time, eprecially bright colored ones. however most decals made today will be fine, thats just the manufactures way of "covering there own a$$" im a professional detailer and we try out all the new things that come out. especially if theres alot of hype about it. and we put it against, our everyday proffesional products. i will say this. turtle wax's new ICE polish is just that , a polish. i wont bringten a color or take out a stain. its just a protectant. the paste is great for water repellant, it makes future washes easy and smooth. its a nice product, but jus remember if u want to use it make sure u clean the paint well as far as washing, then a good cleaner wax (mequiers line is the only available retail product i recommend) and then the ICE . paste is prefered over the liquid ONLY on turtle wax products. thats what they started with many years ago,and they know what theyre doing . of course the new ice paste is very nice, it doesnt act like a paste at all which is why most people today have switched to liquid waxes/polishes. ICE is very easy.... on a side note, IF you plan on using ICE get microfiber towels. well worth it and youll acheive the results your looking for. the biggest complaint i get about ICE is " it wont come off" in which i say, if u want it off why did u apply it in the first place...lol.. then theres the " it looks greasy" thats where a clean microfiber towel comes in play. ALSO if you plan on reusing the towels (WE HAVE TO ) wash them seperate from everything, and do NOT use any type of fabric softener whether liquid OR dryer sheet.... for great results with jus one application (no cleaner wax) i recommend mequires GOLD CLASS its by far one of the best out. and can be gotten anywhere. Liquid is preffered. dark colors the more coats u apply the deeper and even the gloss. ( by coats applied i mean , apply then wipe/buff off, then apply again, etc.) back to decals where this originally started. jus give them a light coat soft to med pressure whether by hand or machine, u should be ok.

Re: Wax decals

well said 91LiteSho. i agree on pretty much everything you said. and i too use a claybar before meguires cleaner wax, and an ICE polish to shine it up from time to time. i know it's not a heavy duty cleaner wax, but it does make the paint shine and help water bead up and smooth washes in the future.

also, great advice on the microfiber towels. it's the only thing ill touch my truck with! i even have a waffle weave to dry it!
