water mark help!

Okay I have a question and I am not finding a lot of help on this from the search function. Since I have bought my truck I have had water marks etched into the windows . I have tried almost everything that I seen on the shelves at local auto parts stores to try and get rid of the water marks but nothing has worked. Does anyone know of a way to get these out? Is there anything on the market that I can buy that will get rid of them? Someone out there must know of a way to get rid of these things.

Please help me!

Re: water mark help!

ive heard that clay bars will work
ive never had this problem so im not sure

but you can buy them at a auto parts store
it is a bar of clay that usually comes with a special kind of soap
they are meant to be used for paint, but ive heard they work on windows too
they are like 15 bucks, maybe a little less

if that doesnt work call a local bodyshop
i know there is a chemical that supposedly takes it off
but im not sure what its called

hope this helps

Re: water mark help!

I have the same prob. turns out the water marks are actually between the layers of glass. Looks like water marks on exterior but is actually the resin/glue inside the window. Best cure is a big rock and a $50 deductable

Re: water mark help!

its on the ouside, not between. You cant feel the spots when they are on the ouside. In my two years working at a detail shop I tried claybar on waterspotted windows many times and it never worked, We had a chemical company that made stuff just for us and we had a spot removeing chemical that worked great. I can still get it but its about 50 bucks a gallon and a gallon is the smallest size available.

Re: water mark help!

There is a cleaner that they make for smooth stopetops (with the glass burners). It takes a lot of elbow grease, but works excellent. Go to any appliance retailer and they should have it or be able to get it for you.

Re: water mark help!

There was another thread on this a while back and after reading it I tried everything ppl posted in the thread and nothing worked. The claybar didnt work, CLR and some other limeaway stuff didnt work either then I tried rubbing compounds and got no where with that crap either. Finally I went to a place here in my town that does glass work and bought this stuff called "A-maz". The guy who sold it to me said if this wont take the spots off then they wont come off. I used it on my windshield and its amazing. You can feel how smooth the glass is again and I dont see any of the hard water spots that were there. On the side windows I had to apply it a couple of times but it worked on those windows too. The stuff is called A-maz and it says on the can that its manufactured for Sommer & Maca, Cicero, IL ph:800-323-9200.......and I think it cost like 8 bucks.
But by some claybar too......makes your paint feel better than silk.

Re: water mark help!

Go to a glass shop and get some cerium oxide. CR Lawerence makes it. (probaly others also) It's a pinkish powder. Take a sponge or wax applicator and get it wet then wring it out as best you can and dip it in the C/O. Use circular motion until all the spots are gone. DO NOT USE A BUFFER!! Rinse well. If the water does not sheet off re-apply. It may take several tries but it does work. it will remove light to medium scratches as well. I use it about twice a year to get all the crap off that accumulates. Between applications you can use Bon-Ami to polish your glass. I used to do service work on the side for a major window mfgr and the C/O cured a lot of defects. Hope this helps....

Rick
