Trouble polishing my billet wheels
Alright, well about a month ago I bought my billet wheels off of ebay, they clearly needed a good polishing. So today, I sanded down the backs of them where some rust and pitted areas were, got the wheel really smooth to the touch. So then I get out the Mothers powerball and Mothers mag and aluminum polish and start to polish them, but they're not getting shiny like a lot of wheels I have seen. Some tiny areas look shiny, but for the most part, there are a bunch of dotted areas, they look like pits or chips, but the wheel feels smooth around the area. I tried sanding with 600, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit and still couldnt get them to all go away. I dont know if I got rid of any or not, but I got tired and gave up. I talked to my uncle about it and he said they might have a clear coat over them. He also said that those little pits could be chips in the clear coat, and he said if they do I wont be able to polish them unless I strip the clear coat. I've never heard of anyone else having to do this, so I figured I would ask here and see what you guys think. Did I maybe just not spend enough time sanding or do i need to get some paint stripper or what? Any help would greatly be appreciated!!
