Re: too much wax??
if you really enjoy waxing...once every two weeks would be just fine...honestly...i dont wax mine but once every month and a half....or....when the water doesn't bead up when washing it

Re: too much wax??
It's difficult to do but you can get a wax build up. In so saying, I'm thinking that you're putting down a couple of coats each week. It's tough to get too much. If you happen to do so you can always get rid of it using an isopropyl alcohol wipe. This is the method some sealant manufacturers recommend when stripping wax to apply their sealant. I always put down two coats of wax when I'm doing it. I don't do this to actually increase the thickness of the coat of wax (though this may happen to some degree). I do it primarily to insure that I have covered everything adequately. Many waxes on the market have some cleaning ability built into the formula. Trying to layer a cleaner wax is an exercise in futility. The second coat strips the first one.
I have a pretty good idea how long my wax will last (from experience) and make sure I wax before the protection is gone. I typically do a major clean on a monthly basis, including wax and polish as necessary. For the weekly or more frequent washes I use a Wax-As-U-Dry (WAUD) type product while drying and finish with a detailing mist. There are several good WAUD's on the market including the one the category was named after, I like DuraGloss AquaWax very well, it's found locally and is quite a bargain. You can't always base your level of protection by the size of the beads of water. This is particularly true when you look at some of the sealants on the market. Once applied they will sheet water as opposed to beading. Some people really like this benefit because you don't end up with water spotting. Last edited by GearHead_1 : 05-23-2008 at 06:41 PM. |

Re: too much wax??
thanks, just what i was looking for- I dont do it more than once a month. My only concern was i heard somebody saying they only wax twice throughout the summer and it made me think there was a reason for only doing it twice.

Re: too much wax??
before you wax, use dish soap, that will get the old wax off before you apply a new coat
