If you are tired of getting hard water spots on your windows, here is a great tip for you to use. Next time you are at the hardware store get some #0000 steel wool from the paint department, and then get some glass cleaner, I prefer the foaming types. What you need to do is work the windows in sections, break up the windheild into 1/4's and then start by using a circular motion (like waxing) then wipe it off and start next section, it will remove all spots and leaves glass like new! DO NOT use on your mirror glass, IT WILL scratch it! And be careful not to hit the paint accidently of you'll have to hand rub the scuff out with rubbing coumpound.

Re: Tired of hard water spots on your windows?
I have used a 0000 or 00000 & it got off all the scum that wont come off with anything else. I had to do it to my old police car. I usually just use the clay bar on it now though. Works wonders with no abrasives.

I do not suggest the steel wool, you're only asking for trouble if theres a small chip in your window or any sort of deformation in your glass. If you want to get rid of tough water spots on windows, you need to use a less abrasive COMPOUND. Excellent examples are barkeepers secret, comet, and a distilled water glass cleaner. Your windows will disapear infront of your eyes. i have done this several times on stubborn TTOPS for camaros that are notorious for waterspots (they get so damn hot.).

Re: Tired of hard water spots on your windows?
What I do to clean my windows. I use a Window cleaner, then It will normally leave streaks, because I clean my vehicle in the sun, It shows the spots that you miss. But after I use the window cleaner, I get a sock, and put it on my hand like MR. SOCKO, and just rub the windows clean. No Spots or Streaks. You can even skip the Window cleaner.
Got use some elbow grease to get the best clean |

Re: Tired of hard water spots on your windows?
Steel wool won't hurt the glass if its the fine grade stuff, works great for taking overspray off.
You guys must use some nasty hard water to get spots that just don't wash off when your washing the car. The outsides I just chaimois ( ?) wait a couple minutes while doing other things then wipe them down with wypalls (thick paper towels) The insides, use glass cleaner, wipe with a paper towel, use a clean damp chamois to wipe them again, and finally wipe them with another clean papertowel. More steps then just newspaper and glass cleaner, but works much better, and quicker too. |
