Tire Shine everywhere!
After washing and waxing I always do the tires and spray some tire shine. Usually let it sit for several hours to dry and then I wipe them off really good. Never fails I now have black spots for the tire shine all over my truck. Pisses me off. Anyone else have this problem I have used tons of products and it always happens. Any ideas??

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
i usually use the Meguiars tire shine, the purple goop stuff with one of the curved shaped sponges to apply and leaves no spots. Give that stuff a try, I have never been a fan of the spray on stuff.

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
Yeah that's what I use, only I spray it on and let it soak in for a minute and then take an old towel and rub it in so it doesn't run. Idk how you manage to get it on your truck though... |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I spray Hot Shine on one of those curved sponges, apply, let it sit for a few, then wipe again with an old towel or paper towels. It keeps everything in check and stops it from running on to the rims and flinging all over the truck.

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I didnt read all the replies but here is what you need to do... Use a water based tire shine, NOT silicone or else over time it is not good for the rubber or vinyl. One that works very well and I use in my detailing business is Stoner Tire Shine. Look online for Stoner and you can buy a huge box for fairly cheap with free shipping. This stuff soaks into the tire, rubber, moulding, etc and will NOT sling or hurt it. As you may not know things like ArmorAll are NOT good for your dashes, plastics, vinyl tops, etc. It takes out the moisture and slowly eats it away.
The Stone stuff will leave your tires VERY shiny and lasts a long time. If you want just a new tire look without so much shine then ValuGard is the way to go. www.autoint.com <-- Valugards website. |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I have some foaming tire spray. You are supposed to spray it on and let it dry, but I wipe it off after a few mins.
I also like the gel. |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
apply your tire dressing to a brush, such as this one....
![]() then apply to the tire. Reduces, if not eliminates overspray. let the dressing sit for a little while, maybe clean the windows in the mean time. go back with a microfiber town and wipe the heavy runs out of the tire grooves, letters, and nooks/crannies. If it looks to greasy (depending on the tire dressing you choose) you can wipe the entire tire with the rag to tone it down a little. happy detailing |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I've never tried the gel, but the liquid spray stuff sucks. That stuff definitely slings all over.
I use the foaming spray from Meguiars. Spray on, wipe overspray off the wheels, and just let the tires dry for a couple hours. I've never had it sling up. |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I spray armor all on a sponge then wipe tires. After hour or so go back and wipe off excess.Or if your in hurry spray down a rag and wipe tires.
Reason I use armor all is I hate shiney tires.Mine come out a rich black look with little shine. |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
hiattS10, the water based will not eat up the rubber and protects it while it shines. Good choice. If you want a shine then Stoner Tire Shine is the best. Want something that will just make the rubber a new looking black (like a brand new tire with little shine) then ValuGard www.autoint.com is your best bet while still being a water based dressing.

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I agree with most replies that it is usually best to go back afterwards and wipe off the excess, but you may have more problem with sling if your sidewalls have many little ridges/grooves on them. Mine do, and I have to spend more time wiping off excess in the direction of the grooves to get it off.
Meguiar's Endurance, Tire Swipes, and wipe excess. Or just invest in a shed load of Quik Detailer. |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
The biggest mistake no one mentioned is how you clean the tires before you apply dressings.. Soap and water is not going to clean the tires so the dressing will adhere to the rubber. Thats one main reason you get the sling that and over coaiting the tire with dressing. Get a good tire cleaner like E1 All Wheel and Tire aerosol use that first then apply dressing you will see no sling. Dressing will not stick to dirt.

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I'll dissagree. Thick shitty tire dressing slings no matter what or how clean the tire is.

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
Take and old t-shirt and place it over your hand. Spray the tire shine shit into the palm of your hand wetting the shirt with it. Then grab the the tire and run your shirt covered hand over it. It puts just a slight film over the tire and makes them look wet. Then use a dry spot of the shirt and wipe the tire again to take access off. Drying it leaves the tires looking brand new and not looking retarded wet. Last I heard from a hotrod judge, tire shine was a deduct point on judging. Dry, clean tires were preferred as tire shine is a cheater for looking clean and black.
I use no shine---------and have clean tires. Just scrub the tires up good when you wash the truck. Use a dedicated rag for a specific application and keep each in its own plastic baggie to prevent cross contamination of specific cleaners and oils. I.e. 1 rag for tire shine, 1 for polish on, one for polish off, one for Armor-all interior, one for Armoral interior drying (same rule applies to wet looking dashes and interior as it does for tires), etc etc You get the point |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
I use Black Magic and a washcloth. I saturate the cloth
with the BM and then rub on the tire. Doing this has ceased throwing any of the BM on the body. I may get just a tiny bit on the rear lip of the fenders, but I just wipe that off. Very easy. But no where else does the BM throw on the body. Makes it easy and a pretty clean chore using a washcloth for this. Try it once and see. |

Re: Tire Shine everywhere!
Read up on how some tire shines turn a tire blue. I do not remember the exact reasons for it but some tire shines have things in them that will eventually turn them blue and sometimes faded brown spots as well... |
