THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

wanted to make a thread for everyone to put in their best tips for beating the competition and gaining points at shows.....i have a show in like 2 weeks so i'm lookin for a few pointers myself....and as you can see with factory height and rims, my focus is bein cleaner than everyone else, since i can't have rims and be dropped....so heres my tip:

dumb as it sounds for this upcoming show i'm gonna armor all my spare tire and clean up around the ass end of my truck under the bed, and i'm gonna stick a mirror on the ground so you can walk by and see how clean it actually is...also i like to armorall my lil black window rubber pieces on the outside windows on the doors..whatever you call them, and i rain-x my windows just so they have alot of extra gloss..you notice it on a sunny day.

anyways i guess i'm gona kick this off and i hope we get alot of cool tips and stuff to help everyone out.....

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

I use meguiars hot shine. I spray paint my frame and then use it on that as well. Comes out looking brand new. I also clean heavy under my back wheel wells and then wax them up.

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

thanks for whorin my shit up guys, haha, ugh i hate to see anyone who armoralls their dash anyways...i can't stand that greasy ass look, and the last time i showed i spray painted my frame too, but i ended up puttin armorall on it too once i got to the show...i thought it looked pretty good like that.....and as for the mirrors....i HATE it when someone puts them by their wheels...the only reason i'm usings mine is to show how clean my underbody is gona be, and i'm gonna stick one in the bed and stick my black dub s-10 on it, just so i can maybe draw some attention to the bed, instead of the dirty ruts in my bedliner, and i also think for this show, the bed is a category in itself so i need somethin to sorta jazz up the bed...what do you guys think about lil cars in your display....i have my big dub s-10 which is goin in the bed.....and i have 3 1:64th scale dub cars that i was gonna put on my dash or somewhere else...and i have a red dub grand national, that i thought i was gona put on my speaker box...i think this may be a little much tho, so i was thinkin just take the little cars and stick them on the speaker box....

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

I'd just focus on the things people forget......like the gas cap areas, between the door jambs, the tight spots under the hood, the wheel wells, stuff like that. I used some tire blackening stuff on my rubber moldings around the window and stuff at my last show, and i did aight.

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

yea i'm planning to do something with my door weatherstripping, and i'm gonna get out today once it warms up a lil and take the wheels off and clean em up and paint my fenderwells and spray up my frame really good, its supposed to maybe snow today, and rain first of next week, so hopefully i won't get too much built up nastyness behind the wheels in a week and a half...the show is the 20th

A well done display board should get you a couple of points. I'm going to use this to prop up my hood.

I made it.

12"x12" mirror.
Cut vinyl for a mask.
Sandblast away the background.
Paint the blasted areas black.
Frame.

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

i got 2nd place - mild s-10...pretty cool with me considering i whooped the hell out of this one cat.....he primered his truck orange...and i don't think he taped it off .....there was paint on the headlights, windshield, dumbo mirrors, a big ass dent in the tailgate which was white..if i didn't place ahead of him i would have gave up on my truck...but i got beat out by a primer green sonoma on 20s primered aqua with a shave job and caddy tails, the other s-10 in my class was just lowered a lil on factories, iwith a nasty front end.....and his paint was gangster mexican lookin...looks like he took it out and didn't sand..just striaght painted his pieces...the s-10 wild class was another story......4 bagged, 1 with hydros, and 2 of those were bodydropped.....definately some sick shit...and my best friend got 1st int he ranger class, but i had no pics taken cuz i got there and my battery of 2 years had gone dead for good with me...so i'm waitin for coverage on this one site, and then i know a few ppl that took pics with disposable cameras so when i get pics i'll let yall know

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

well this was a local show that was supposed to only have like 30 vehicles or so total....but it ended up havin like 60....i won't be puttin it in any more shows this year, unless there is a charity show in november held by a local club...which i'd enter just for it bein for charity...but my truck is boring...as a matter of fact, for this show, my best friend said he wasn't gonna show his bagged ranger unless i showed alongside him..and i really wanted him to show, so that helped me decide to do it...yea my truck sucks..i know, but i must be doin somethin right for these local shows....i've only shown twice and i have two 2nd place trophies..oh well...i'm just taking up space now at shows basically, but best believe i have alot of plans in the next 5 years or so for this truck....go to page 3 on my cardomain profile and see for yourself....but its cool, hater...j/k but i don't really see much wrong with me showin my truck at local 2 or 3 county-wide shows, and small charity shows....but its cool...i catch shit all the time, even not at shows....so glad to see how yo ufeel about it i know you're not the only one.....

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

hahahah yea please don't tell me you thought i was ****in dumb enough to put my truck lookin like it does in a show of any big size.....i wouldn't be able to pull that off...i'm really bad about how my truck looks and i wonder about how ppl think about it......so i can't see myself puttin it in a big show with stock rims and hieght.....cuz i'd be so self conscience about the ppl that would be walkin around at the show and that would talk shit about me and the truck...i wouldn't be able to do that... but i am ready to get my rims and bags and tweed, and then i'll really be able to take care of it and i'll be lookin to knock out some big time shows.....lol

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

I know i may just be fueling a fire here, but I gotta pitch in my two cents. Everyone starts with the same ole stock S but its more than that. I parked my truck a mile away from walmart even when it was a stocker because it was mine and i knew it was destined to be different. You show for the love of the show, and to be around people who are into the same thing as you. Not to mention supporting your hobby. If someone hosts a show and no one attends, then there wont be as many in the future. You gotta love your truck for what it is, and progress will come at you own speed. Not all of us can afford to be cover trucks yet, but hey, its what we love. I cant do F B S S or pancake yet, but damn it every time i eat a pancake i think about how sweet that day will be when i can. And thats whats important. You dont start off driving a nascar, you gotta work your way up. And thats exactly what we're doing. Dont take your truck to the huge shows unless its ready of course, but dont be afraid to take it to a show that has your class. But im just kinda rambling so ill shut up =-P

Very well said.

I have never put my truck into a show. This will be my first year that I will be entering it. Last year I could of probably put it in and it would of been respectable but I decided against it. Even now with my truck I don't think I will place at a good size show.

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

I agree, i've been to two small rinky dink shows last year and took home a first and third but I didnt really go there with the intentions of winning anything. I went more for the social end of it, hanging out with fellow enthusiasts and shooting the shit.

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

Haha, thats kinda whack that you gotta call out a girl and her truck like that. I think its good for people to at least TRY to hook their rides up. Even if it isnt laid and shaved it's still a sharp lil truck. Like i said before. Its like any other sport.......you progress, and you get trophys dependant upon your level and class. I've been to one show that had a stock class......simply for the cleanest stock vehicle. Showing shouldnt really be about winning as much as it is a good chance to clean your truck up nice, and bs with the people. Unless you got a National mini trophy or something anyways, no one really cares about it =-p

Re: THE OFFICIAL show point grabbing tips and techniques

In reply to an earlier thread.. I have used Armorall since I bought my truck 12 years ago and don't have any cracks anywhere except my asscrack and I didn't Armorall that.
I bought my truck new and have been doing a couple of hundred dollars worth of mods every year. I started showing the first year I had it. All I did was put some rims and a tonneau on it and took it to the super nationals for the weeken. I knew I was going to win crap but had fun hanging out with everyone and checking out everyone's rides all weekend. I have put lotsa cash in it and done something every year. I still can't compete at a national level but go to the shows anyway. I would go even if there weren't awards. Don't get me wrong I like winning but I like hanging out too.
