Re: taking stuuf off chrome rims
It might sound a little weird...but it works. Make sure the chromed surface you are working on is CLEAN, I mean free of dirt or any other particulate matter that has the potential to scratch the finish, the bug matter wont scratch. After you clean the surface use a small square of tin foil, dry with no cleaner or wax and gently rub the surface. This will remove small surface imperfections/tarnish...I used this method on all of the chrome on my '64 Buick Riviera and it worked better than i had expected.

Re: taking stuuf off chrome rims
By the way...Test it first on an inconspicuos area to ensure that it wont scratch. Dont want you to take my advice and end up scratching the piss outta your chrome...good luck.

Never heard of using foil, sounds like it'd scratch the surface though
Clay bar and chrome polish should do the trick ![]() |

Foil works great. The foil is softer then the chrome. I cleaned up my American Racing rims on my 86 4Runner. There is also a steal wool for chrome wheel clean up it also works great and I didn't have any scratches.

Re: taking stuuf off chrome rims
I was told to use Windex on my chrome Crager wheels which I do not have anymore(they all were oval). I just used Glass Plus on my aluminum Torqu Thrust II's today. It works great on aluminum. It took all the waterspots, break dust, and red clay off of my wheels without bleaching them out. Meguires left white powdery bleached spots on my wheels, even though I only left it on there for 15 seconds. I love Glass Plus now. I use it on my tinted windows, chrome grill, dimond tread, billet, stainless, and now my wheels.

Re: taking stuuf off chrome rims
use peanut butter, clean the surface then apply a small amount of peanut butter. the peanut oil will remove it. this also works well with getting road tar off as well.

i'm serious, there is something about peanut oil that gets it off. just apply it in small amounts use some elbow grease and whipe it off.

Re: taking stuuf off chrome rims
If they are good chrome, not polished then you can use fine steel wool. If it is some shitty chrome then you probably wasted your money anyway. Fine grade steel wool wont harm nice chromed wheels

Acid and a pressure washer at a car wash, just dont use it all the time
since you might not be able to find straight Hydrochloric Acid, you can use "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner. You'de be amazed at how well that shit cleans metal, it makes brake calipers look brand new. |
