Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

I really need to get the tires back to black again. They have this weird yellowish
tint to them and they look nasty. I don't want to send away for something, is
there a GOOD product I can buy at the local autoparts store that will help get this
nasty yellowish-smog type layering off the tire's sidewall ?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

I use Eagle One's A2Z Tire and Wheel cleaner. Spritz it on good and scrub with a brush. The brown residue is the ozone in the tire that leaches out as you drive, the rest of the dirt is brake dust and street grime. Then apply a dressing like No Touch or Meg's Hot Shine.

comet works great! I used to use it all the time on my fullsize to really make the white lettering on the sidewalls stand out

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

elitued 50/50 or even 75/25. Let it sit on the tires for about 2-3 minutes then scrub the living hell out of them, and if you have a pressure washer hit it with that, if not use the jet setting on a spray nozzle. They should be looking great, and after a couple coats of tire shine they'll look even better

Sounds like a case of using armor all to me.....shit sucks in dirt like mad and eventually will make your tire crack.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

The brown shit is wax that the tire manufacturers place in the tires( I believe to help keep the rubber in good shape.) There was an article about it in Automotive Engineering a few issues back. BF Goodrich actually just came up with some new kind of wax that is black so it eliminates the browning. BUT Bleech-White is good stuff. My dad has always used Armor-All on the tires and I do as well, we've never cracked any tires and they always look great.

You can also use degreaser and scrub brush. Use Armor all or something like it afterward.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

Well tried the Westleys stuff. Worked real good on part of a tire. Problem is I got some on
the wheel which is alum. Messed it up a lil, but was able to polish it out using Flitz. I'm going
to make a round 15" cover that will snug up on the lip of the wheel so's to keep the
Westley's from getting on the alum. Once done I'll just pull the cover off and clean up what
little gets on mag.

Thanks again for the tips.

i dont believe in thet "spray on, watch is clean itself" shit....theres too much grime and stuff on the road to watch a spray clean the tire. A lil elbow grease doesnt hurt..

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

today, i found that i have a bad case of brown tire. i used a brass brush and DAWN. i had to scrub my ass off just to get a small, 6" section, of the tire clean. PITA. but i don't want to stain my wheels.

Yes! NO TOUCH tire shine is the shit. The liquid (purple can) is easier to work with than the foam (white can) but it's all good. It's cool cause if you get a good coat of it on there it will last a while and the next time you go to clean your truck or detail it or whenever you tire shine it, you just wipe the old stuff off with a rag and the dirt goes with it. Then you just spray new stuff on.

I usually use paint thinner or some type of mineral spirits and a rag to get the tires clean initially but like I said if you use the NO TOUCH all the time you just wipe them clean with a rag.

I also use in my airdam and bumper impact strips as well as my mirrors.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

i use wesleys and it works to get the grime off. to make them look new, i use black magic tire wet foam and it keeps them black and shiny for a long time.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

Being the lazy ass I am, I got tired REAL quick of the Westley's bleach white. It worked
good on the tires, but getting that stuff off the rims was a PITA. Had to re polish etc.
So I went and got a can of the No Touch and tried it. I was pretty happy with the way
that stuff works. I screwed it up on the back tires as it got some runs in the stuff and
looks a lil nasty, so I'll redo em tomorrow.

No Touch makes three different kinds. The stock stuff in the white and red/black can,
then this stuff they call extreme wet, and the last is this new stuff they call ultra extreme
wet. I just wanted em back to black, so I got the stock stuff.

Have to admit I'll use No touch from now on. Works good, and it's easy to apply.
Thanks for the heads-up on the product.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

Get some A2Z or eagle one all wheel cleaner. Safe for aluminum non clear coated wheels and then some.

Werd! simple gerrn is the shit. I now buy it by the gallon. I have never used it to wash the entire truck though. NEVER use it on a soft bed cover... I learned the hard way.

Re: Suggestions for getting tires black again ?

ack...don't use simple green to wash the truck itself!! It will strip ANY protection there was off. I suggest using a quality car wash soap on normal washes and DAWN Dish Soap to strip old wax/sealants off before applying a new layer of wax/sealant.
