streaks in paint???

after i waxed and glazed my truck, a few days later i noticed in one section, the truck paint looks like its alternating between vertical sections of the original blue and a darker blue. I have no idea whats up.....its only one section of the truck, the rest looks fine. anyone got any ideas?

Re: streaks in paint???

Some wax products streak on some paints and even on some panels so for that car you may want to try a different product. . Also, some streaking happens because the wax on that panel hasn't had ample time to dry/cure because you may have put it on thicker there. Lastly, sometimes after you wash your car your applicator may have picked up water that dripped while doing that panel and that would have extended the wax cure time significantly or worse, altered the way the wax performs.

Also, I prefer products that don't streak like Meguiars NXT Tech Wax. You also have to be very stingy with it and apply the thinnest most even coat you can.

Re: streaks in paint???

Also, if your using towels that we're washed with fabric softner, it will streak. Fabric Softner transfers from towels to paint. Not saying thats your reason-but its good to know

Re: streaks in paint???

It's either streaks from too much product or product you didn't remove or some kind of detergent/softener in the towel you used to wipe it off, just like the other two said. Take a clean towel (100% terry cloth if you have it, or a MF is better if you have one) and just buff the hell out of it and see what happens. If nothing changes, try spraying some water then buffing. If nothing works, it could be a paint defect

Re: streaks in paint???

thanks for the replies. yeah, I did use microfiber towels (not washed in fabric softner) and the type of wax and glaze I used was Meguiars Gold Class Wax and Meguiars Show Car Glaze. Maybe it's from too much glaze on that panel, that stuff is REALLY hard to remove though...

Re: streaks in paint???

That's probably the problem. Some glazes/waxes are hard to remove, even if you use as little product as possible.

Re: streaks in paint???

You can strip the entire truck, and start over?

DAWN DISH SOAP or an isopropyl alcohol wipe down...

Re: streaks in paint???

i've read that you shouldn't use dish soap on car paint because its more abrasive than actual car wash products....which may lead to swirl marks...

Stick with DAWN original (blue kind)...

Dish soap just contains more harsh cleaners that will strip wax, it won't lead to swirl marks it just strips all the wax/polish etc.. off your paint. Although using it too frequently can dry out the rubber on your car, but if its just used to strip off old wax there is no problem.

Re: streaks in paint???

it could be that moister might have gotten under the clear coat, one way to solve this is to take a heat gun and go over the paint and see if it comes out, but u might wanna leave that to a perfessional cause this can mess up your paint also

window cleaners remove all wax from paint, or buffing removes glaze and wax

is this due to the polishing and waxing you think? have you seen something like this before?
