Stainless Steel

Hey I think thats what these tanks are made of, and i'm wondering if you guys have any thought on cleanin this stuff off them?

I tried some wheel polish I had and it wasnt doin much. I'm thinkin gas got on them cause the filler neck is in the bed next to this one the other one doesnt have much wrong with it.
