thats probably the hardest smell to get rid of....i would clean everything really good with a mild soap as far as the dash/ plastic in the truck and for the seats, carpet, and fabric you almost need a steam cleaner....after you have done that a good air freshner ....good luck

Re: smoke smell

I remember that episode of Myth Busters where they took that Vette' and put the dead pig in it to rot and then would try to see if they could get the smell out. But they said those smells get into the duct work and may never come out. I'm sure cleaning the interior like 2002ZQ8 said will help a lot, but just be glad it's only smoke and not rotting pig carcas.

Re: smoke smell

theres this thing called dry shampoo that you use for pets and such where you dont need water. you just dump some soap on your hadns or w/e and then rub. it foams up, cleans, and then you take a towel to wipe off the extra bubbles and then its dry. and clean and smells better.

Re: smoke smell

i know the guys at a detail shop that i used to work beside used an odor eliminator fogger. it comes in an aerosol can and you pop the top on upside down to lock in the spray tube. anyways, you leave the car running with the a/c running (or the blower motor if your a/c doesn't work) and you set the fogger in the middle of the car/truck and let it spray until it's empty. you can buy this stuff at an industrial supply store or a big hardware store, or maybe from your local detail shop. I just went and found the can that i've got. The brand name is Big D. It literally has a large-print "D" with the word BIG in the middle. The label says "Odor Control Fogger" and the Product No. is 341. Trust me, this is some really good stuff. We use it a little at a time to freshen the air in the bathroom after a bombing lol. It costs about $5 a can, but it's well worth it.

This is weird, i just picked up a can of this stuff last week. My sister had a few left over from a case she bought after her house caught fire. They shipped her "New Car Scent" instead of the "Fire" one they have. She wasnt too keen on the scent so she used a few of them in the house and then just bought the fire ones.

Anyways, the stream of fog that shoots up is pretty high, would it have any effect on the headliner or even possibly the leather? To use a whole can in a car seems like overkill, it says its rated for 6000 Sq Ft, but that figure may be inflated.

It also reads on the can "Close doors and windows and turn off fans and air conditioners." I dont know if there would be any ill effect on the AC systems, or if those instructions are for home use only as to cover the entires contents of the room. With vehicles id imagine youd want it to get into the ducts to eliminate the odor.

Anyways my main concern is the upholstery. I may only use a small amount of the bottle or so, as a whole can of this stuff smelling up my car might make me stick. I sprayed just a touch of it in an open space in the house i can still smell the scent lingering.

Re: smoke smell

I had same problem with my used S10. I cleaned all fabrics well with upholstery cleaner, used Auto Febreeze a few times, and put a box of regrigerator baking soda behind seats for several months. The cab has no cigarette smell any longer. You can also pour the baking soda in your ash tray.
