Re: scratches scratches scratches

I have Black too.. it sucks ass for scratches. There really isn't anything to prevent those scratches. The car wash obviously were using dirty wash mits which was the cause, but eventually even you washing is going to cause swirls. You can't get prevent them.

I recommend giving it a good wash, and if you have wax already on it, take it off with a paint cleaner. Then I would use Meguiars Swirl Remover followed by a polish and then wax. Meguiars also has a swirl remover that I have had success with so you could try that too.

Re: scratches scratches scratches

oh those are minor swirls in the paint that you can easily take care of yourself.

I would take Meguairs pro line #83 DACP (Dual Action Cleaner Polish) apply it with a terry towel to give it some bite. Follow with either there SF (Swirl Free) #82 and a wax and youll be set, no big deal!

Re: scratches scratches scratches

Dont use a high speed buffer since your not experienced with one. A high speed buffer remove the mils of paint on the surface, by heating up the defect and taking out the imperfection. WIth the proper tools such as a paint guage, you can take off to much clearcoat, and the paint will start to fade down the road rather quickly. Also you can burn the paint right in front of your eyes if u do not know how to move the buffer. next, if you do not follow the proper "E" motion to buff, the buffer will just leave more swirls than you have there. Those swirls are minor, and if you want to save time just invest in DA buffer. Dual Action buffer by porter cable is safe for any user and will get rid of those with the right pad/chemical combination. Rlith, is right about a high speed, but only if you know to properly use it, if not youll be sorry!!!

Re: scratches scratches scratches

if u use the dual action cleaner polish, u don't need to use the # 82, just put some wax on after it. i would use the #82 first to see if it got rid of the swirls. always try the least aggressive step first. i would also recommend using a da polisher. rotary buffers are too hard to use if u don't know what u are doin. burn the paint way too easy. just my opinion!

Re: scratches scratches scratches

Also to add to what Derek said, make sure u work ALL Meguairs stuff down into it is clear and dry. Meguairs is formulated with diminishing abrasives, so you have to keep working the products so that it can work. Also, Derek is right about starting with the least agressive product at first and then going more aggressive. I just dont see #82 taking those out, but that is a picture after all.

Re: scratches scratches scratches

God, I dont want to sound like a total jerk on this board, but just help everyone with my years of experience in the detailing industry. I dont know everything, never will and dont want to be pointing and say your wrong. A glaze is a filler product and is different than a polish. Many shops use to product so they dont have to do a 4 step process and can speed up the production. A glaze simply fills and hides the scratches, but after a few washes they will reappear. A glaze has the similiar characteristics of a polish, but doesnt have the cutting power of a corrective buff product such as #83. Good luck in whatever decide to do, but remember as in black paint the softness of it and how easily scratches appear are you ready to have someone else do it for you that much? If not, learn yourself, read the article and obtain excellent results. You can do it!!

Re: scratches scratches scratches

quamen is correct, a glaze simply fills the scratches. A polish will remove them. Your gonna find that if you polish them, they will be back. It's black. So maybe get in a habit of polishing them once a year, and using a glaze several times a year to fill them in. Just a suggestion.

Re: scratches scratches scratches

Best and fastest product I have ever used on mine (it's black too) is Meguire's
"Scratch-X". Aboust as easy as a light coat of wax. Wipe it on, then wipe it off. It's fantastic. It's what I put on all my vehicle after I color sand them. It even works great on painted interior peices that take abuse and can't be hit with a buffer. Wipe on, Wipe off, Smack the old lady on the bum and have a beer. That Easy!!!!!

Re: scratches scratches scratches

quamen is right. check out meguiar's web site. they have some downloadable car care clinics on it. they show you how to get rid of the swirls and holograms. www.meguiars.com. good luck.
