restoring faded single stage paint(huge pics)

restoring faded paint on a mazda b3000(same as a ford ranger)first wash n dry the vehicle...inspect for tree sap/road tar..
use Malco adhesive and label remover:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...dab3000019.jpg

to remove tar:

just dampen a towel with the product then hold on contamination to soften, then lightly rub
tar's gone:

you will find more as you buff, the lighter stuff you can buff off,the heavier will require more cleaner(btw you will find a TON of uses for this cleaner.
ok this is the compound 3M Perfect it 3000 rubbing compound(can also be bought in quarts):

what you want to do now is take a 'soft' towel and compound and rub,by hand areas that will be difficult to reach by machine:

now that that's done get ready to buff with the wool pad:

and the compound
i buffed at about 12-1400 rpm
do you see the compound between the pieces of tape?

that will do that square area between the tape/bodyline/wheel well
use medium pressure, just lightly pass over all the areas you did by hand
i don't throw away old buff pads just for this reason, when they get to wore out for a fresh paint job i put them away for a project like this:

i used front n back of 3 pads(the roof took both sides of one pad:

after you are pleased with your buffing, wash with soap and water and dry thoroughly, you do not want even little drops of water on the panels as it will make removing the polish a real pain
here's the polish (3M perfect it 3 Machine Glaze) and pad #'s:

you already saw a pic with a good view of the numbers, this is to show the backing pad for the polishing pad.
i did not get a pic,but remember the compound between the tape?it will take 1/4-1/2 the amount of polish to do the same area.keep a NEW soft towel to rub off polish that dried before you could remove with the pad

if you look careful, you can see the upper left 1/4 of the tailgate has been polished...see how the rest is pinkish/hazy?

polish with medium pressure, gradualy using lighter pressure till the haze goes away.
now wash, dry it,wax it and enjoy a shiny vehicle
i did not remove all swirl marks from the wool pad because i really didn't care at this point,as it is a used truck, going to the lot,and it is getting a good coat of wax from the detailer.

i sure there will be questions, that's what i'm here for i don't use any products other than 3m

Don't hold in one spot,, you'll over heat your paint and blister it! Trust me,, I know,, I had to repaint the rear door of our hearse because I wasn't paying attention!

i use a wool pad.....just use slow, steady sweeping passes......use 50% overlap almost like you are painting

i'll grab some pics tommorow of a vette i'm buffing out.......looked the same as the truck although the 'vette is base/clear

Re: restoring faded paint(huge pics)

awesome! i need to do this to my drivers door and 3rd door. they have faded paint on them and only them for some odd reason. i think they were repaint and never cleared. the doors just look funny. when the truck is wet all the paint looks great. once dried the doors are light in color and look like they are 10 years older than the rest of the truck
