removing emblems and logos
Hey guys wuts up. I have a black 2000 S-10 and i want to take off the logos and emblems. The thing is there is some wax crud build up from a crappy wax job on two of the chevy logos plus the truck is four years old. Will this cause there to be a shadow or is black a pretty forgiving color.

My truck was three years old when I shaved the emblems, I had no problems.

Re: removing emblems and logos
I took off the emblems off the tailgate of my xtreme and there was some fading. My truck is black so is there any kind of wax or something I could use so you cant tell that the emblems were on there. You can tell more when the sun hits it.

Re: removing emblems and logos
fleadawg84,
I would recommend that you use a mild compound to get cut that in. I would suggest using 3M's Finesse-It compounds. You can usually find them at a good auto supply store or a place that carries a lot of 3M products and detailing supplies. Of course you would have to do the whole truck because you can't just blend in one little spot or else everything around that area will look really good compared to just okay. Let us know what happens. ~M~ |

Re: removing emblems and logos
i agree with zoma noma. pretty much any scratch remover/polishing compound sould make fading very minimal. i'd say remove it, wash it, claybar it. follow that up by (at minimum) using polishing or rubbing compount all over the area where the emblems were, and i'd say a foot or so around it (concentrating on the emblem area, and using mush less muscle at the edges of the foot). follow that up with some wax and see how it looks. odds are, you and about 99% of people wont be able to tell the difference, only the occasional body man.
basicaly, remove emblems, clean, clay (i would anyway), rubbing compound/scratch remover, wax. that should get you where you need to be. |

Re: removing emblems and logos

Re: removing emblems and logos
yea you can hurt the paint by leavin the heat on there to long, but you shouldnt have a problem takin off the emblems with just a bit of heat and you can use anything that is plastic and wonte scratch the paint to pry with, a plastic putty knife thing or something like that is always good

Re: removing emblems and logos
Also a good strong fishing line ran underneath works good. I usually just use the heat and my ten digits.

Re: removing emblems and logos
ok ..............so, this weekend.............. i took the two emblems off the tail gate and left the bowtie S-10 logo on the doors and let me tell u guys why. Becuz i seriously think im doing something wrong. I took the tailgate off and set it on the work bench to work on it easier. im heating the emblems and the pop-tarts at the sametime, but as i was removing the emblem it was leaving alot of glue behind. i tried a couple chemicals some of which need proper ventilation. and finally got the adhesive off with some gasoline. Did i not use enough heat, did i pull off too soon. should i have not had the poptarts. I mean it looks good now especially since i washed the tailgate and polished it but sheesh....i think, i think i need to go to hooters tonite.

Re: removing emblems and logos
Dude your making everything 100x's more complicated then it needs to be.... i spent about 30 seconds total taking mine off my doors. I just went up to them with a flat head and peeled them off.... now i'm not recommending you do this but it worked fine for me. Just get a blow dryer and some fishing line or knife and try to pull it up from under the black tape... should come right off... and if there's any marks from the tape just use goo gone and wipe it off. Thats all! |

Re: removing emblems and logos
I used the fishing line method on my 2000 bravada (damn it has like five emblems). it was like cutting butter. then I peeled the black adhesive, took a little elbow grease, then used an adhesive remove. I did this a few days ago, it great!

Re: removing emblems and logos
I took off my emblems on my truck a few months back. I just used fishing line and a little heat, then used Goo-Gone to get the adhesive off. It took a little rubbing, but worked great! Looks great as well.

Re: removing emblems and logos
3M sells a spray called General Purpose Adhevise Cleaner comes in a 16oz sprayable red and white can you can find it at any paint shop part no-08987. Just spray it on and five min later take some fishing line and go under the emblem works great have done it to about 2 blazers and works fine good luck.
