Exclamation Removed Embelems ... LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

Hey guys a little while ago I removed all the embelems from my black 94 sonoma. Everything turned out good other then the 2 back embelems. After I took them off and used a hairdryer and some goo gone to get them off then washed it up it left really bright spots where they were. You cant see the spots at all whenever the truck is wet but when its dry and the sun hits it it looks horrible? Is there anyway to fix this or am I screwed? Thanks for the help ahead of time. The picture below is what it looks like dry with the sun shining on it. You cant tell in the pic of the left side decal but you can on the right side decal.

Re: Removed Embelems ... LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

Well my truck is a 2000 so when i took mine off it was a lil rough at first but it got better with time, now its all good. But imma guess some wax of some kind. Maybe a polish or the black turtle wax? theres supposedly a 3M rubbing compound out thats really good on scratches and stuff but i cant find it.

Yup I did the same on my boat and we do this at work(collision center) when people have those magnetic or stick on things on the side of there trucks for buisnesses. Get some rubbing compoound and a buffer(or go to a bodyshop and they will do this) and have it buffed and polished and you'll never be able to tell they were there.

Get a tube of Meguiars ScratchX and put some elbow grease behind it and do multiple applications until it's to your liking.

Ya that goo-gone you used ate up the clear coat. If that happened then there is no buffing out. You might have got lucky and it could be on top but I doubt it, hard to see form that pic.

Never use Rubbing Compound on a clearcoat finish unless it states that it is clear coat safe, like 3M Fine Cut.

I'd clay the entire tailgate, then follow up with some sort of semi-abrasive polish, like Megs Scratch-X or some sort of polishing compound, then a final coat of wax. It might not hurt to use a paint cleanser too, like Megs Body Scrub. And all these products are available at almost any auto parts store

Re: Removed Embelems ... LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

I don't see how Goo-Gone would of done that to the tailgate though. The reason I say that is because I think lots of people use goo-gone, and never have that problem. I used it as well when I removed my emblems, no problems w/ it. I dunno though, just saying what I know.

It's probabaly just some residual adhesive that has dried on top of the clearcoat.... clay it to remove the crap that's still on there, use teh polish, and mebbe a little cleaner wax before you put a final coat.....

Re: Removed Embelems ... LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

Well,,, this is what I would do...

since I have a buffer,, and I have different compounds,,

I would use a pre wax cleaner, or the mothers clay bar system first,

then I would use 1500 grit with cutting compound pad and buff the area.

then I would use my polish compound, I think it's around 3000 grit, with the proper pad,
then follow up with wax and buff to shine!

so, that's me,, if you can get a hold of a buffer! do that!

Re: Removed Embelems ... LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

once the emblem is off

hit the sticky tape/glue with this (local wally world has it)

Then follow up with Scratch X...and if you have a buffer...buff then wax...if not the scratch x
and wax should do it up nice.

My truck is debadged, de pinstriped, de side molding and CLEAN as a whistle!

You can use any rubbing compound on any clear coat finish it is just the technique of applying it. Knowing how much clear is on there, how thick.

Re: Removed Embelems ... LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

I noticed that some of the newer cars have little poles going into the sheet metal and some are all adhesive. I drive a 1996 s10 and I was wondering if it was all held on by just adhesive? Thanks guys.
