question about detailing shops

ok im 16 and i dont have a job.....most kids would say they dont want a job but i do. for the past 2 years i have been working for an auctioneer that my mom works for but it isnt the type of job that i need to make some money. sometimes there are only 1 auction a week and some weeks where there are never auctions so i dont make alot.
ok now to my question...
there is a auto detailing shop in town and i was thinking about putting in a resumea(spelling) to apply for a job but i dont kno if they would hire any1 my age. so what do you guys think?? i want a job where i can work around cars all day and that doesnt include loading groceries into peoples cars. im kinda picky when it comes to findin a job...i dont wanna work at a fast food place...no grocery stores....no restraunts...i applied for a job at sam goody(video games and music store) a few months ago but i guess u have to be gothic to work in there now cuz thats what kind of people they hired. is 16 too young to work at a detail shop?

Re: question about detailing shops

I don't think 16 is too young, but I think you might find it a bit difficult to work for a detail shop. The reason I say that is because each vehicle becomes their responsibilty when a customer drops it off so obviously they don't want people working for them that they don't have trust for themselves. Not to say a 16 year old can't be trusted, but with the way the world is anymore you have to prove yourself to them. Maybe if it's a big enough shop they can start you off with small jobs like shop maintenance then work you into doing things on customer's cars.

If your really into cars I wouldn't hesitate trying to get a job at an auto repair or autobody shop as well. Another good place is an auto wreckers.

Good advice.

My only other suggestion is you can't always be picky. Especially at 16. I worked at a gas station and a grocery store when I was about 16 (24 now) and even though they are not the best of jobs they do teach you good basic work ethics and give you some responsiblity. I do believe in find a job you do like and not be stuck in something you hate, but at 16 anything (within reason) is a good thing.

Re: question about detailing shops

go for it man, i dont think you would have a problem getting into a detail shop, but on the body shop subject that 02-x brought up, definately worth a shot, maybe you can find someone to take you on as an apprentice, the only thing you might run into is shops that worry about OSHA coming might limit what they can have you doing, but anyways best of luck to you, later

Re: question about detailing shops

I worked at one for two years. about 90% of our people were under 21 and most were in high school. I dont know how the shop near you is, but most here hire mostly kids
