Re: Price estimate in detailing?

I detail autos on the weekends and charge on average 150-200 depending on the severity of the flaws in the finish. You have to watch alot of detailers because they tend to 1) not know how to operate a buffer and leave halograms and burnt paint, 2) cover up swirls instead of removing them, and 3)just plain out do a shotty job. Be sure to check the gas tank as that is where most of them forget to clean and behind the license plate. Most are to lazy to take it off. Be sure to do a walk through be for and after to be sure the work is done right and make damn sure to look at it in the sun or under some Xenon lights when it is done.

Yes, be very careful some detailers will just use products with fillers to hide the defects in the paint....

Go to Autopia.org and ask on their forum for an autopian detailers in your area. 99% of the people that do professional detailing on autopia are awesome.

just seeing that price means don't go there they use little to no product and its shit. and it's more like a wash job not a real detail job. Detailing a car normally takes around 5+ hours

Re: Price estimate in detailing?

From my own experience in detailing vehicles, I wouldnt charge less than 150-200 depending on vehicle size. Its taken me 8+ hours on some Exteriors alone depending on paint condition. I would look into what the price includes, what products are used and make a decision based on that.

Re: Price estimate in detailing?

I agree with the warnings on detailers, some just hide deffects with waxes that contain fillers, 2-3 weeks later the swirls/scratches are back. Get schooled first at meguiarsonline.com or autopia.org and then watch the detailer do a car and see if it's being done right, what products he uses, etc.... Meguiars has full day classes for free at different locations, mostly in "The O.C." on how to wash, machine and hand buff your car and then wax. Check their forum for more info & schedules.

True... sorta. Most poeple don't know how to wash their vehicle. When I remove swirls I know in a months time I am going to see that vehicle and all the time consuming swirl removing I did was useless. It only takes one really bad wash to ruin the paint again.

I dont know how many times I've seen someone just grab any old rag out of the garage to wash and dry their car, then bitch about how the paint isnt holding up and looks like crap.

My favorite was the old gas station brush washes, you know, the ones that left the skunk stripe of dirt down the middle of the car and thier idea of a pre-rinse was scrubbing the dirt into the paint .
