polishing misc aluminum?
I have been wanting to polish up stuff like my valve cover for my 97 2.2 and I just dont know what I should use to polish it out to a chrome like finish. I was thinking a bench grinder with a buffing wheel. does anyone have any tips on doing this? thanks

Re: polishing misc aluminum?
You'll first have to sand out any castings and imperfections in the valve cover. The last valve cover I did, I had to start out at 80 grit. Then work your way up. If you sand up to 2000 grit, you can hand polish it out. If you are using a buffing wheel and cutting compounds, you won't have to sand that high.

Re: polishing aluminum
I work for a company that used to polish big aluminum castings to a mirror finish. It took several different strength buffing compounds to do it and allot of elbow grease.
