polishing issues, I think the wax is the problem.

Since it warmed up I spent an entire day give the truck a good bath, polish, and finished with a wax.

It was beautiful everything cleaned up very well and had a brilliant shine, this was a month ago.

Since then I removed the stripes and badges, looks much better solid black IMO. I took the same approach to polishing the hood, roof, tailgate since there was lines left that needed to be buffed out.

I repolished then waxed the tailgate, the roof, and the hood. The roof and the tailgate turned out fine. but the hood... I was left with swirls and a haze that did not come even after I reapplied wax overtop

So a week goes by and this last weekend was nice so I washed the truck again, and tried to use polish on the hood again with the same method as the first time, and it cleared up the swirls BUT the haze is still there.

Also there is more of a haze where the stripes were then the areas that weren't covered by the stripes.

The polish didn't help and neither did wax on a small section of the hood.

Is this the original layers of wax that I applied to the truck getting the swirl marks/haze, both the first one of the year and the 2nd one after I removed the stripes??? or is it possible this is in the clear coat.

The rest of the truck is pristine. it's just the hood.

I could take some pictures later on today to give you a better idea of what is going on

I am doing this by hand by the way, I haven't bought a buffer yet.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Re: polishing issues, I think the wax is the problem.

This photo was taken the day after I removed the stripes and used a little bit of polish on just the white crusty vinyl outline left over from the stripes.

Since then I washed it and re polished the hood just to make everything consistant really. That is where things started going downhill.

Uhh maybe you could go over the hood with some laquer thinner and strip off all of the old wax, and then try to rewax it, it be worth a try.

Look this is an old trick for removing swirl marks....reapply the wax to the hood buff it off by hand, immiedately after buff the hood again with a damp wet cloth go in a back and forth motion not round and round. go with the grain of the paint
let it dry all should be well

Haha I might as well throw some aircraft cleaner on there along with paint thinner to really get that coat of wax off.

I didn't think pictures would do a justice but maybe would help a little to better illustrate what I am talking about and what it went from to what it is now.

I was just hoping for some direction on what is causing the swirl marks, only thing I could think of was the wax could be the culprit since my methos were the same as the first wash/polish/wax of the year.

It seems instead of removing the wax with the polish it was just either scuffing that around and not removing it or some of the polish itself was just being rubbed into the wax and meshing the two together.

my advice would be to have all the wax buffed off of it.... get a good polish job.....then start over with wax

but that is just a guess as i can't tell from pictures

Re: polishing issues, I think the wax is the problem.

wash your WHOLE truck with dish soap. this removes all the old wax and polish or anything on the clear coat. try it again. with a fresh coat of polish wax. i do this with my truck every 2 months of so to remove all the old coats of wax and what not

or try a clay bar on your truck. may help. im doing mine tomorrow =0)

hope this helped
