Plastic rubbing left marks on paint
Ok i had one of those stupid plastic bedliners on my truck, the ones that you can remove and shit, well i took it off and put herculiner down for thhe cleaner look, but anyways on to the problem, the old liner used to hang over the side of the truck and im guessing it rubbed against the paint, so theres two long ass lines going down the side of the bed, I bought a 2800 rpm buffer/waxer and i used turtle wax red car polish, and it pretty much didnt do shit to the streaks, im hoping there is alot better quality buffer rubbing compound wax/polish/whatever to get these off, its hard to explain but the streaks are kinda furryfrom plastic shaving on it, im hoping this is not permanent cuz its real ugly looking, damn sorry this post is confusing but i no nothing about body work.

Re: Plastic rubbing left marks on paint
Try a buffing compound and if that doesnt work, try a rubbing compound. The rubbing compound will definately take it off.. but too long in one spot will take your paint off. As long as you keep the buffer moving while its spinning, you shouldnt have any problems.

Re: Plastic rubbing left marks on paint
It would be helpful if you posted some close up pics of the problem. Most bedliners usually rub the paint right off so I'm guessing it would be a rare case that you will be able to fix anything without re-painting.

Re: Plastic rubbing left marks on paint
First you have to figure out if it's the clear coat that's scuffed, and not through down to the pain!
If the clear coat is just the case,,, wet sand with 1500 or 2000 grit just to take the white scuff marks away,,, then get some 1500 grit compound and your buffer there, with a rubbing compound pad, then as the above said, keep the buffer moving,, then use a polishing compound with a polishing pad,, and repeat,, then wax. If it's down to the paint,, you'll have to paint that area, clear and wet sand edges, buff and blend it in,,, not too much work,, but has to be done by someone who knows how! |
