Pitted Glass

I assume this is the correct forum to post this in...so the past couple of weeks, I have set my truck up to lay out on 20's, front to back. I cut the top of the wheeltubs in the bed out, and I plan on putting in tubs and a notchcover, but I havent yet. I was riding low today, and turned right at an intersection, and I suppose (this is my best guess ) I threw sand or dirt on my back window...now it has little tiny pits in the glass. Anything I can do for it, even suggestions?

Thanx for any help guys

Re: Pitted Glass

maybe from when you were grinding on your rear frame you threw shit at the glass, happened to my other s10, its still pitted, got to find someway to clean it at least a little or just get a new one.

Re: Pitted Glass

yea i'm guessing you didn't shield your glass when you were doing some grinding or something, and sparks went up and pitted the glass..not dirt...

Re: Pitted Glass

Yeah, it wouldn't just be some sand and pebbles, that's some hot shrapnel from some grinding.

Re: Pitted Glass

i found out today if you take some quik detailer and a razor blade to the glass it cleans up very well. my buddies windshield was pitted to all hell, 10-15min with the razor blade and it was a smooth as new.

Re: Pitted Glass

I have doubts to a razor blade and detailer taking that stuff off. My glass is pitted as all hell. And aint nothing takin that crap off. You gotta get a new glass.

Re: Pitted Glass

yea if its pitted, its screwed. a razor wont do anything for that. when glass is pitted, its little chunks of metal thats embedded in the glass from cutting, welding, or grinding

Re: Pitted Glass

Yeah I could see it doing that. But the pits will still be there. I didn't think to use a razor blade. Good idea though. If just rather get an all new glass. But then again mine is horrendous.

Re: Pitted Glass

dont car lots use a coating or something that they put over the glass to fill in the little chips from rocks or w/e on the windshields? im pretty sure they do and prolly would work on that also.. but may cost more than a window from the junk yard

Re: Pitted Glass

well you would think that when it has small imperfections from something hot, like metal from grinding/welding... it would leave an indention similar to--------^v-------. with the - being the glass, the v being the indention and the ^ being the glass that is melted and pushed out of the way. could be completely wrong. but sounds logical right? in which case the detailer and razor would take the "^" off and make it look and feel much better, however pits are still there. unless that was clarified before and im just too slow to figure that out. zaathur151 has the same problem, he did all the grinding/welding and all that plus he lives on a gravel road and drove for a couple months without wheel tubs so he got all the rocks and gravel and such all over it too.

Re: Pitted Glass

try using a ton of glass cleaner and claybar to smooth it out. If that doesnt work, ive used turtle wax rubbing compound paste and the paste wax they sell. Those come in green and red containers.
