Over spray

Well the guy before me put the Tonneau cover on my black 2000 X and they painted it on the truck. It would of been fine if they covered the rest of the truck but they only did it in some areas. The over spray has been on the truck for 3 years because they said it would cost over $600 to take off! I don't have that much(college guy). I know i need to use clay bar i read the tutorial but it didn't really go into detail on that portion. I don't want to F@#$ up my truck so please help if anyone can. I really need to get this done. Thanks

Re: Over spray

Read the sticky titled " how to care for your paint " everything you need to know is in there. You cant really screw up your paint with a clay bar. Just wash and dry the truck get yourself a few microfiber towels and spray the clay lubricant (instant detailer) on the body and rub the clay back forth. then when finished with that area wipe it down with a clean microfiber towel. Dont forget to put a coat of wax on when your done because the clay bar will take that off to.

Re: Over spray

Good luck using the clay bar, I tried that and wasn't able to get overspray off of my truck. And it was only on there for about a month, couldn't imagine 3 years.

Re: Over spray

3000 grit on the orbital sander and a light buff makes everything all better.

Re: Over spray

Detailing clay is your best bet, but it will take some time. Don't expect it to come off right away. I had some overspray on my S10 that was on there when I bought it and it came off with clay, although it took a while.

Re: Over spray

I ran over a GOLD spray can with my front wheel and ended up with gold glider on my black truck! Will all this info apply to me too? Sorry to cut in on your tread. Thanks.

yea, i would definitely try the clay listed above. thats always your best option with this type of problem. After claying you can always try a compound/polish too.

Re: Over spray

This weekend i spent 20 hours taking off my over spray, Polishing, waxing and buffing. My truck looks brand new now! The clay bar works great just make sure you take your time and do it right. I'm going to warn you now that your hand and wrist is going to kill you after! Good luck
