New to Clay. Waxing question.

I just want to PepBoys and saw Meguiars clay bar kit sitting. I remeber reading through the endless posts here about how amazing clay bar is. So, I decided to purchase it.

Now that I have it I had a quick question about how to use it. I just waxes my truck maybe a week or two ago. How should I go about using the clay bar if the wax on there is so new? I know I need to wax again after.

Also, would waxing trap any contaminants under the caranuba or would the clay bar be able to remove such contaminants?

Thanks! I will use it as soon as I know the answers to those questions.

Just use it like the directions say on the package. Just make sure you do it in the shade or the garage or you will "burn" your paint if you arent careful. Then you'll have to rewax your entire truck when your done.

Re: New to Clay. Waxing question.

You can strip the wax off your truck if you wash the truck wish dish soap first.

Wash the truck with dish soap
Clay the truck
Wash with normal truck washing soap
Wax really good

Thats what I do anyhow, and the paint looks great when you're finished.

Cool. Thanks for both of your tips! I like the dish soap idea. I think I will follow through with that plan.

Since the sun is in the middle of the sky right now and it is 100F out I do not think I will be doing this today!

Re: New to Clay. Waxing question.

Liquid Dawn has that high alkaline content, removes build up on the surface. However, i would not recomend washing the vehicle to many times with the soap. I heard that Dawn used exessively will cause the paint to dry out. The clay bar kit i use recomend the Dawn and also gives the warning about it.

Any truck cleaning is so much easier in the shade lol. I of course never get that lucky and sweat my testicles off but hell whatever I guess haha.

I didn't know it would cause the paint to dry out. The only time I ever use it is when I clay my entire truck though. Which only gets done like twice a year usually I just spot clay it.
