Re: never waxed or polished before
meguiars is a good brand to use, that and mothers are the 2 I use.
As far as using it, they include a nice set of directions on the back of the bottle that tells you exactly how to use it, it's real simple.. after you washed it thouroughly, you just put some on a rag (some, not alot) and rub around,, let dry to a haze, wipe off... bada bing, bada boom.. Don't do it in the sun or else that victory red will be history :-X.. |

Re: never waxed or polished before
Get the Mothers "two step Kit" it includes a clay bar and cleaner wax, the clay bar will remove all the industrial crapola that gets on there. Follow that up with a good finishing wax.

Yeah, if it's victory red you're gonna wanna do it regularly. I use Turtle Wax just because it's all I have before I make another "get things for my truck at Wal-Mart" run.

Re: never waxed or polished before
heres what i did last weekend... first thing, i washed my truck real good with some Dawn liquid dish washing soap to help remove any old wax and stuff (despite what some people will tell you... dish soap wont hurt your paint). then i used the Mothers clay bar kit and rubbed down my whole truck. then i washed it again to remove the clay bar lubericant. then i put on two coats of that new Eagle One Nanowax (the Mothers kit comes with some wax, but i really wanted to try this Nanowax stuff). i put on one coat at night and a second coat the next morning in my garage (and i'm sure you know... never apply wax in direct sulight or if the surface of your car is hot). anyways... it turned out great. that Nanowax stuff is the sh it! good luck.

Re: never waxed or polished before
This is my procedure:
1. Wash with a good car wash soap ( I use Meguiar's High Tech Wash #00) 2. Always wash from the top and work your way down. 3. Dry with a high quality chamois ( I like the Absorber from wal-mart) 4. Feel surface of truck, if it's kinda gritty u need to claybar (follow directions on box) 5. Apply a high gloss polish with swirl remover (always use a 100% terry cloth towel or foam applicator) 6. Apply a high quality wax. I like Meguiar's High Tech Yellow Wax #26 (always use a 100%terry cloth towel or foam applicator) 7. Use Meguiar's #34 Final Inspection and Meguiar's Ultimate Wipe for final once over to make sure you got all wax off. I also wetsand any scratches and then buff the sanding marks out, but that is a whole different area that should only be attempted by professional detailer's. Different people on this forum like different products. You will have to experiment with different things before you find what you will like. You can also buy products that contain both polish and wax in one. Meguiar's carries Medallion Polish and wax in one and I like it pretty good. Just take your time and do it right the first time. |

Re: never waxed or polished before
Speaking from experience it'll just keep it nice. Red is very prone to damage (sun, scratches, dirt) |

Re: never waxed or polished before
I got an '00 s-10 xtreme victory red and I wax mine once every 2-3 weeks....like someone said before, do not wax in heat or direct sunlight or you will need a new paint job. I usually just wash my truck with meguiars gold class car wash, dry it, then start waxing after. The wax i use is called Zymol. This is the wax I started off with and I still havent changed to another because it works that good for me. Only thing is it gets a lil pricey after a while, but good sh*t cost money...Check out this pic of my truck just washed and waxed.

Re: never waxed or polished before
Yea it stays on pretty long. You can find it pretty much anywhere I think. I remember seeing it at Wal-mart but I usually get it at Kragens. I'm not 100% sure but I think its a polish and wax. Here's a few more pics. I dont got close ups but the pics are big which are as good as close ups. Only thing is I cant upload them as their regular size on here because of the limit size of the files.

Re: never waxed or polished before
I use to use Zymol for several years. It is a very good wax. Now I use the Turtle Wax Ultra Gloss. Blows it away. If you use a clay bar, then 3M swirl remover, then turtle wax, that red paint job will look better than ever. Keeps my red perdy

Re: never waxed or polished before
You don't wanna find out the hard way :-)
Chick at work (hot chick too i might add) did it to her green mustang.. It made it a whitish haze to it, that NEVER will come out.. Permanent.... Gotta repaint to make it look good again, I wouldn't mind showing that chick how to wax though ![]() |
