Need some help with my pricing.

I am just now starting to detail cars that arent just my family. I just detailed an S-10 today (Pewter). He had chrome 17" Rims. Anyway, I just washed, waxed, and chrome polished the wheels along with tire shine. The job in total took my 1 hour exactly. I charged the dude 20$. Now that I think about it I probably should have charged more. What should I have charged in this situation? Any input would be helpful. Also, what would you charge just for a simple wash? Thanks

Re: Need some help with my pricing.

I usual detail 3 or 4 vehicles a week on the side. I basically do one guys vehicles though because they have about 16 vehicles including their work vehicles. Wash, vacumm, tire shine = 50-70 (Cars and small trucks $50, Excursions and full size trucks $60-$70 depending on how dirty) Throw wax in there for full size truck and i get $100 automatically, cars $80-$90. Throw Clay bar in there I get $40-$100 extra depending on size. My friend and I share business as well. If he has spare time we pick up an extra 2-4 vehicles a week more. If people want stuff done right they are willing to pay, unless you have alot of competition in your area then you mite have to take less. If they see your quality of work they should be willing to pay. If you look for the money you can find it. I even have picked up some young kids vehicles and they will pay. My friend n I washed, waxed, shampooed carpets, clay barred, the whole works to a 2003 z71 owned by a 17 year old kid two weeks ago for $200.00. It turned out awesome and now his family wants to be on a monthly cleaning plan. Thank God I have 3-4 days off a week cuz I work 12 hour shifts. Business is out there, bad economy or not. Bust your ass and it'll pay off in the end.

Re: Need some help with my pricing.

Theres a mag out there called autolaundry. you can get a free subscription for it out there. They have surveys in some of them and an issue or two later the results are it it and you can base your prices accordingly. Also has many suppliers in there that you can get some really good deals on airfreshners and cleaners. Its geard more towards automatic washes, but they have lots of info.

I would assume it was relatively clean in the first place. Takes me anywhere from 30mins to an hour and I I got is a garden hose and a bucket of carwash(HiTemp). Wax takes about the same time and I am not looking to seeing how long it's gonna take me to polish a set of chrom rims for a friend. He almost shit his pants when I told him just the cost of one product alone was $100.(zoopseal) I dont want to have to do it monthly.

Re: Need some help with my pricing.

our prices are...
--wash, dry, vacuum, dust, windows, dry the jambs, and tires shined....start at $25
--tar removal and wax for $30 extra
--detail interior (hot water extractor, clean and dress all plastics/vinyls) $35 extra
--engine compartment $20 extra
--trunk is $10 extra
OR all the above for $100
this is assuming a small car and not excessively filthy

Re: Need some help with my pricing.

hey man I have a car detailing business and here is how I break it down for the work that I do:

Standard Wash (wash, dry, wipe down door jams, clean windows, treat tires and interior trim Meguiars shine of choice

Cars-$25-$30 depending on how nasty it is
Trucks/SUVs-$35-$40 depending on how nasty it is

Full Details (Standard Wash + Wax and maybe a polishing depending on condition of paint)

Cars-$50-$75 depending on nastyness and whether it needs polishing
Trucks/SUVs-$100-$200 depending on Size, Nastyness, and whether it needs ipolishing.

I don't know about up North but in North Carolina, if you do a good job they will pay this kind of money.
