My Scratch-X review
Test Vehicle 87 S-10 Pick-up with a really neglected paint job... ntm it sat in the sun for 3 yrs never washed/waxed let alone touched due to a blown engine..
Well i bought Meguiar's Scratch-X wondering how it worked so i tried it on my truck.. and here were the result.. Before... ![]() small test area.. ![]() comparison shot... ![]() whole hood... ![]() all the lil white dots is where the paints either been chipped off or flaked off.. theres a few spots where its started webbing.. least thats how ive always heard it called.. where it cracks and looks like a spider web latus ![]() ![]() still needs a paint job.. but not sure itll ever get one... |

Re: My Scratch-X review
I'm pretty sure any old wax woulda done the same thing, but it does look nice.

Re: My Scratch-X review
I'll bet it would work better with a foam pad, at intermediate speeds....

Re: My Scratch-X review
To get rid of oxidation, you might wanna try using some clay, and then buffing it all out with some glaze, and a foam pad... and yeah base coat/clear coat is the only way to go! I would NEVER use a single stage paint job on my truck!

Re: My Scratch-X review
id thought of getting it redone back to the original lacquer paint, but it just takes too much work to keep them looking nice.. b/c would be better but also a lot easier to keep maintained... |

Re: My Scratch-X review
A nice cleaner wax would do a similar job (Meguiar's, Mothers, etc). Also, it waxes the truck while you clean off the oxidation. 1 step. For an old weathered vehicle, that's the way to go. You can clay bar first, also, but be ready to have some nasty looking clay when you're done.

Re: My Scratch-X review
when I used scratch-x at the honda dealership I worked at, it would only cover up scratchs and not last very long on the lot cars that we detailed.
