mother's ball polisher..werks for me
i asked my girl for that mother's ball polisher for xmas, it goes on the end of the drill, i used it to polish my wheels today, i usually spend around 20-30 min polishing them by hand...i spend 2-3 minutes today with the drill, i think doing them by hand may get a better overall look but for less then 10 min, my rims look hella better then they did....
before... ![]() after ![]() im using an OLD drill that my dad gave me, like 30 years old, doesnt turn that many rpm's, and im using mothers aluminum polish (white jar), im sure with a better drill it would look better but like i said, less then 10 minutes and my aluminum is blinging, i HIGHLY recommend this to anyone with aluminum wheels that doesnt have the time to polish... |

whoa... i don't know about polishing my balls...
haha, no seriously though. If i was worried about my billets and planned on keeping them. I'd get one. But i want to switch to chrome for ease of cleaning and i want bigger wheels anyway. |

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
powerball is $20 at any advanced auto/discount auto/whatever the hell else they go by.
they work real well on rims like the 212. but any wheel with lots of sharp edges tears it up. ive eaten mine up on my 221's. works great though, but you still have to do the small areas by hand. |

seen this thread before, then I thought about Flitz. Does anyone know if the Mothers' PowerBall or the Flitz Polishing Ball works better?

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
ok i have another post out there about the mothers powerball but i just did this today so enjoy. i know its not near the best looking rims in the world but then again i drive it daily and have snow rain mud and whatever else to drive through.
i only went over the rims once because i didn't have much polish left and its still winter and the snow is melting and they will look like crap in a few weeks anyway. BEFORE: ![]() AFTER: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
dude...your hijacking my thread...
lol jp i heard sanding\scuffing your polished rims with some fine grit sandpaper gets all the pits out and helps create a better shine after polishing, i did this with my aluminum swingarm on one of my dirtbikes and it turned out looking like a mirror. you might want to try that since your wheels dont look all that shiny. |

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
so that's how you can get rims like my newer zq8 to shine? fine sand it and polish the hell out of it?? hmm, I'm gonna do a search on this and do it tomorrow for the hell of it..I'll see how it turns out.

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
yeah if you were to wetsand it and keep going to a 3000 grit paper, then polish wit a rough compound then a fine compound, they should shine up beautifully.

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
when i did my swing arm, i used 1000 grit i believe and did it dry, BUT i was also removing paint and then used steel wool to buff it to a dull shine first. i would say try a 2000 grit first, maybe even wetsand it, when trying something new, i always try the least amount first, and if it was me, i would try it on the backside of the wheel first and experiment there, "just in case"...ya know?

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
but my backside is NOTHING like the front, they haven't been polished at all and they are really really dirty and all i do is clean them with a brush and some soap and thats it, so if i was to to it i would have to try it on the front.
so wet sand with 2000, then polish with the powerball, then hand polish with some cream polish? |

Re: mother's ball polisher..werks for me
id wash them with an SOS pad to make sure there is no debris in them, then try wetsanding, if you see no improvement then id probably try it dry, then id buff out what i have with some steel wool. clean them real well after that and then re-polish with the ball. once you repolish though, id take a little extra time with the ball to get a real nice shine. they should look like a mirror when your done and shouldnt be too time consuming either.
