Re: Mothers

Theres alot more to it than it being an OTC product, but give it a shot and see what happens. Do you have any swirls or anyhting on the paint now?

The swirl marks were HORRIBLE. I ran it threw ONE automatic car wash this winter and it DESTROYED the paint... So the past week I washed the car with armoral (sp?) car wash soap and then waxed with meguiers (sp?) tech wax... Was better then I started but with nothing to cut down the swirls they were back by the next rain...

So far I got half the truck done and it is INCREDIBLE! no more swirls and the paint is as smooth as glass! Smells good too Also my truck was egged about a month ago and I have some really really bad spider cracking in the clear in 2 locations both of which have been humbled by this 3 step wash... Still there but not as noticable!

Re: Mothers

i see u allready started, but id recommend to take your time with the cleaner wax, overlap your strokes a few times.

maybe even do one panel at a time, polish the fender, remove that, then apply that sealer/glaze, remove it, then apply that paste. then move onto the door, with same process, then the bed, etc.....

and i do normally hate on the otc brands to , but mothers is about the best you can buy in a store.

Re: Mothers

Thanks man! Thats pretty much exactly what I did. I would apply all 3 steps on each panel in phases. I took my time. Took me about 3 hours from start to finish.

1st application
bed side... then remove, door... then remove, fender then remove

2nd
bed side... then remove, door... then remove, fender then remove...

and so on! Came out great! The real test is tomorrow. We are expecting T storms so if it holds up well through the next wash I will be impressed!

Re: Mothers

Should of been an experience before you started polishing

Collinite is a wax. Most common used are Collinite 476 (paste) and 845 (liquid).

Re: Mothers

The look is mostly in the prep. $2 turtle wax will look fantastic on well prepped paint, while a $100 wax will look only ok on paint with no prep.

When you get a chance, definitely spend the $15 and pick up a clay bar kit. Mothers and Meguiar's both make descent kits that you can pretty much pick up anywhere. The clay bar will remove all the surface contaminants that regular washing can't leaving your paint super smooth even without wax. This will help your wax or sealant last much longer as well.

There is no shame in using OTC stuff, that is how most people get started and then move onto better and better stuff. About seven years ago, that is all I used and knew about was the OTC stuff. I had the cheap turtle wax, moved on to Meguiar's OTC stuff, then did some research on a few detailing forums. I now use Menzerna polishes, Pinnacle and Wolfgang wax, Meguiar's (detailers line) sealant, etc...

Good technique with cheap products will give you great results.
Bad technique with high dollar products will give you crap.

Keep up the good work!
