Meguiars car wash makes my paint rough?

Last year when I got my truck painted, everything was awesome and super smooth. Only about a month later I noticed that the paint had a really rough feeling to it that didn't wash off. I ended up going over the truck with a claybar and it brought it completely back to normal. But then, I noticed right after washing the truck (literally right after I dried it) that the roughness came back.

After doing a little work on google, I came across 2 reviews with people that had this happen with Meguiars car wash. I'm just wondering if anybody else has heard of this happening or experienced it.

I use a Microfiber sponge, soft water, and this car wash. I wondering if I should try a dirrent kind of soap.

Weird. First thing I'd do is switch soap and see if you get different results. After you clay bar it, I'd see if the "bumpyness" is there before you wash it again too.

ive been detailing cars professionally for 16+ years now including dailys, to 200,oook + plus cars........

i have used MANY different brands.....i would say Meguiars is one of the worst i have ever used......

lol, another "house brand" actually makes some of there waxes even.

No I can't see his paint, I said "I can't believe its the car wash."

And I've been detailing for many years too

. I have my fair share of soap from Optimum, PB's, CG's, Duragloss, DP, etc. Theres nothing wrong with Meguiars car wash. Its definitely not the worst. They have a few diff. variations/uses, super soap, hyper wash, shampoo plus, and then the ones you can get OTC.

I'd try washing it with dawn to get all the old crap off, clay bar it, then wash it with another soap and see if it does the same thing. I'd make sure it's actually the soap before you go taking it into a painter

Yeah, when I claybar it, it stays nice until I wash it again. The plan is to try different soap next time, this year I can actually put wax on it now too.

I think I'll try that out. For that price, it's worth taking a chance. I did a search for "Colinite 476S Review" and found some people on Autopia.com that spend WAY too much time with their wax.

Still kinda curious about the original problem that was posted. Anyone else noticed this problem?

if you do use that wax, i warn you, wax one panel at a time, wax the fender, remove the wax, then wax the next panel, etc.....

and remember it is detergent proof, meaning it will NOT clean the paint. it is great for newer paint jobs or properly prepped paint.

I like the Meg's gold car wash. Works as well as some of the higher dollar ones. The Pink Meg's isn't as good though.

Yeah, definalty use the 476s. I have been using that stuff for years(and many other Collinite products) with great results. From reading your posts, would assume that you are getting contaminants stuck on the paint from there being no protectant on it. You can clay it and ital come off, but you have nothing there to stop the stuff from even forming on your truck. Next time you wash it, clay it and then put 2 coats of the 476s on there. 30mins between each coat so that the wax cures.

thats what i was thinking also, shit from trees probably, or if he lives in a big city or near railroad tracks.....

476s is unlike anything else ive ever seen, NOTHING wants to stick to it.....

nah, I don't live near any of those things. That makes sense that it might be dirt sitting there that then just gets smashed and smeared around with the sponge maybe. I did have a Wizards breathable wax on there but maybe that stuff isnt quite good enough for tough protection. ordering the stuff on the ebay link right now... i just got done claying the whole truck.

i got some wax from adams polishes its too cold here to wash and wax my truck yet so i have no idea how it is my girlfriend uses their stuff on her truck and it looks pretty good nice and smooth all the time

funny you brought this soap up. just yesterday i was cleaning up after i washed my truck. I use the same soap, and I had left my soapy sponge wet and full of sudds on my driveway for about 4 hours after i washed the truck, when i picked it up, it had eaten away at the pavement under the sponge. Now i have a 1/4" deep rough hole in my driveays shaped like a large sponge shaped dog bone. soap has been working so good for me for the past few years though.

anyway. my brother has some meguiars Gold Glass car wash he uses on his mustang - in my opinion it ****ing sucks. i use it on my truck when i run out of the wash i normally use.

it seems like there is no suds to it, regardless if i put a damn half bottle of it, or just a capfull it doesnt get all bubbly and thick like most washes i use, and its so harsh. it eats away all my old and leaves me with an unprotected paint job.

most washes i have use will not strip my mothers wax off, but this one does and it makes the surface really dry and rough feeling also.

to the op - what was the wash called you were using?

Gold Glass is a very nice wash. Suds do not make a good car wash. Lubricity does. And it will not strip your wax.

476 is an awesome wax. I use 845 as a base usually for it when I do winter protection details.

And I find it very hard to believe the car wash ate the concrete,

Have you considered It might be that the concrete absorbed the water and got hot and the water expanded it cracking the top layer? I see it alot aat campsites when people have fire rings made of concrete and start a fire after a rain, then they explode.

i dont think it was that, the sponge was out of the sun and it was under the sponge out of the sun, i can try to get some picture this weekend when im actually home when its day light out.

okay...

next time i wash my truck i will take pics of it. i use mothers wax the paste -it lasts great if i dont use the Meguiars Wash on it, but say if i wax my truck on monday and wash it on tuesday with Meguiars it wont have hardly any wax left.

Now this might be misleading to me or something, i would think that most washes are to wash your car/truck in between waxes. but this wash might be a wash to use to remove old wax and start fresh - not sure - but i know that i wont use it anymore.

okay, I just spend the last two days clay barring my truck and then I put a polish on it that i bought last year. Its Wizards Shine Master Polish and breathable sealant.

I would do a side by side after i get the new wax that i ordered and some different soap but i dont feel like doing all that work again.

Next time you wash it, clay it and then put 2 coats of the 476s on there. 30mins between each coat so that the wax cures. thats what i was thinking also, shit from trees probably, or if he lives in a big city or near railroad tracks..... 476s is unlike anything else ive ever seen, NOTHING wants to stick to it.....

That makes sense that it might be dirt sitting there that then just gets smashed and smeared around with the sponge maybe. I did have a Wizards breathable wax on there but maybe that stuff isnt quite good enough for tough protection. ordering the stuff on the ebay link right now... i just got done claying the whole truck.

I use the same soap, and I had left my soapy sponge wet and full of sudds on my driveway for about 4 hours after i washed the truck, when i picked it up, it had eaten away at the pavement under the sponge. Now i have a 1/4" deep rough hole in my driveays shaped like a large sponge shaped dog bone. soap has been working so good for me for the past few years though.

Gold Glass is a very nice wash. Suds do not make a good car wash. Lubricity does. And it will not strip your wax. 476 is an awesome wax. I use 845 as a base usually for it when I do winter protection details. And I find it very hard to believe the car wash ate the concrete,
