Looking for a good buffer/polisher

I have always liked Milwaukee tools in the past, however I am not that eager to go out and spend $200 on a buffer.

Since I have no idea who makes a professional buffer, please give me some ideas. Anything within the 80-100 range would be great, but I do not know if that is just wishful thinking.

Thanks.

Re: Looking for a good buffer/polisher

I saw that last night after I posted this up. I read that it was not originally designed to be used as a polisher (on clear coats) but it works excellent. I wonder how intense that orbital action is. I own a orbital one (it works poorly though) and your hands are always itchy after using it. The price is pretty decent for the porter cable one though but I am not sure about that motor. $150 for a 3a motor or $200 for an 11 amp one.

Other companies I found were all around the same price range (Makita, Porter Cable, and DeWalt).

The results you get with the pc are nice but the results with a buffer are so much better, but you run the risk of ruining your paint if your not careful as where on the pc its virtually impossible.

Re: Looking for a good buffer/polisher

Maybe I will consider the pc. Knowing me I will somehow manage to burn the clear and that would piss me off to no avail if that happened!

Plus I cant see myself spending $200 on a buffer that I may only use once or so a month.

Re: Looking for a good buffer/polisher

Look at this one. I have it. It's the best I've ever used.

Griot's Garage 1-800-345-5789 - Tools

  • Powerful 750W Motor
  • Variable Speed Control
  • Ergonomic Design
  • Soft-Start, Constant Speed
  • 4000 - 7000 Orbits/Minute
  • Flexible 6 1/2 Ft. Power Cord
THE GRIOT'S GARAGE RANDOM ORBITAL... THE BENCHMARK OF THE INDUSTRY
My life's work has gone into developing a random orbital machine polishing system that is safe for your paint and easy for you to achieve flawless results with minimal work. Griot's Garage continues to lead the industry in this field and after sixteen years, I've achieved perfection and so can you. Plus, the older you get, do you still want to be using your arm and elbow to polish and wax your paint to perfection? With the Griot's Garage Polish and Wax System, there is no safer or easier way to remove swirl marks, fine scratches, and apply a protective coating to your paint. Not by wool pads, not by cotton bonnets, not by hand. The problem with the old way of using wool or cotton pads and non-orbital (straight drive) polishers, is that the cutting action was so great that it produced its own heat and swirl marks, burned through the color coat, and damaged the paint. By following the detailed instructions that are included or watching the process with our Machine Polishing DVD, you can polish and wax your car quickly and safely. The results will astound you. What makes it so easy? Our specially engineered Foam Pads, unique Machine Polishes and the Griot's Garage Random Orbital Machine! The problem with other machine polishes is that they have been formulated for non-orbiting machines and are made to work under high heat conditions. With our polishes, the first thing you'll notice is how cool the paint remains. This, combined with the proper foam pads and the machine's unique orbital pattern, eliminates the chance of you accidentally burning your paint. Our hook and loop Foam Pads are 6" in diameter. Start with the Orange Foam Pad if you're going to be removing swirl marks with our polishes or One-Step Sealant. Use the softer and gentler Red Foam Pad for waxing with our Best of Show Wax® or Paint Sealant. You'll notice that our nice thin pads will give you more control and precision over all other pads. Safe for all types of paint. Enjoy paint perfection!

Re: Looking for a good buffer/polisher

Hey philntx thanks!

From what I have read this buffer is the same as the PC. Not sure if there is any benefits with either but from what I have read there is none. Would be nice if I can get a deal on pads and polish though when I buy it.

Re: Looking for a good buffer/polisher

I bought the harbor freight variable speed. It works amazing for how much it cost, 40$ with a two year warranty out the door. I spent another 100$ on 3m compounds and a couple pads. It comes with a backing pad and is the standard 5/8 -11 shaft.
