How to get seats/carpet out of a 99?
i wanna get my carpet cleaned in my 99, cuz i know for a fact that there is some water up under it, and my truck smells like ass if its been locked up overnight...especially when its hot out....is our carpet glued down or can i just remove the seats and lift it out?
as for the seats, i couldnt get the little star bolt off that holds the seatbelt thing on for ANYTHING...i even stripped one of those big alan wrenches ![]() Last edited by HighrollerII : 02-10-2005 at 10:13 AM. |

The carpet is not glued down, it is only held down by the seats and trim. And to get the seat bolts out you need a torx bit, not an allen head.

To get those bolts out we put an old 1/2" socket or whatever size it is over the bolt and then welded the socket to the bolt.. Then we used a air gun to pull the bolt off... Worked pretty well. Have some water nearby to throw on the carpet if it catches on fire though |

Re: How to get seats/carpet out of a 99?
Need a torx bit (looks like a star) and a 16mm socket wrench for the other 3 bolts. That star bit was a bitch to get out the first time....just pull like a mother******.
After that remove ur console (if u have one) and plastic trim pieces (these just pop out) ***Dont forget to disconect the seatbelt reminder clip under the drivers seat. And when u reinstall the seats....make sure that the seat is all the way back on the seat track or else the bolts wont line up with the seat holes. It took me forever to figure that out |

In case you were wondering that torx bit is a T-50 in size.

Re: How to get seats/carpet out of a 99?
I went to sears and bought the torx bits that are built into the sockets. If you use that with a socket wrench it should come out pretty easy. Obviously, the larger the socket wrench you can use the better. It will give you more leverage to torque it. I think I used a standard size wrench though & it was still pretty easy compared to the other methods I tried before buying those to get it out. good luck.
