How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

well since the server crashed, i decided to remake my How to.

(sorry but i dont remember the sizes of sockets needed for this project due to the crash)

Here is my carpet when i bought the truck.

Step 1

Remove the two bolts located below. (notice the difference in color of the carpet)

Step 2

Remove the two torx bolts. located under a plastic cover

(pic shown with cover removed)

Step 3

Lift up the rubber insert and below it is a bolt to remove the lower console.

Step 4

Remove the torx bolt to remove the seat belt.

Step 5

Remove the seats. below the driver's seat is a sensor for the seatbelt, disconnect the wire to remove the seat.

Step 6

Remove all plastic panels from around the carpet. also remove the kick pannels

Step 7

Remove the jump seats (if you have ext. cab.)
To remove the jump seat box unscrew 2 screws and pull outwards. the box is held in by clips.

pull down the close hanger tab show below. underneath it is a screw. unscrew it to remove the jump seat box.

Step 8

Remove the seatbelt recoiler

(this may lockup on you. the seatbelt coiler contains a weight that locks the seatbelt if a sudden stop occurs. if you hold the coiler at an angle, the weight shifts locking the seatbelt)

Step 9

if needed remove the lower torx bolt holding the lower part of the seatbelt located underneath the carpet

Step 10

Carefully work the carpet and fold it to remove it from your truck. (having a buddy on the other side helps alot)

Step 11

now is a good time to vacuum the bare floor. If you are replacing your carpet you are done. reverse the steps and install your new carpet.

Step 12

If possible hang the carpet when washing. Power wash the carpet for best results. For oil stains use Dawn dish soap.

After washing hang the carpet on a fence to dry. MAKE SURE IT IS COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE RE-INSTALLING!!!

btw thats a plastic duck

The Finished Product

When dry, reverse the process and install the carpet and enjoy

Here it is installed. nice and clean

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

Thanks for the how-to. May do this someday once mine gets really bad. Never thought about removing it to clean it.

Does that also mean that there is no glue under the carpet? Also, was this for your '00?

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

some side notes-

this can be done without removing jump seat and side panel, along with not removing the seat belts,

also while the carpet is out, it is a good time to run any amp wires you want

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

Where can I find pre-molded carpet for my 2-door Blazer? Also, would it be best to get it for only the front, and then get a few yards of it and cut to cover my raised floor/tubs? Has anyone done it before?

I just did mine, it is a T-50. Call around to find it, I had to check 3 places before I found one at Menard's. You're gonna need a piece of pipe or something to use as a breaker too. They really wanted those torx bolts to stay in there.

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

If you have a pressure washer it'd be so much easier to do it that way. But if you don't I don't see why scrubbing it with a brush wouldn't work.

It's a really good how to thanks beandip once again for an awesome thread

pressure washing is recommended, but not necessary. as nasty as my carpet was from the previous owner it helps out alot. especially if you have a 2800 PSI pressure washer, then dirt, caked on mud or whatever comes out easily. if you dont have one you can always go to a car wash and use their pressure washer.

you could get a brush and some DAWN soap and scrub scrub scrub but as mentioned its easier with a pressure washer.

just make sure you let the carpet/factory sound deadening COMPLETELY DRY before installing. if you have a shop vac, suck up the excess water on the carpet to speed up the drying process.

If you have trouble removing the seat bolts you can follow this How-To by paint toad. http://www.gmtruckhq.com/?q=how-to-r...ation-s10.html

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

Dunno if it's been stated yet, but I just wanted to point out that this "how to" is kinda vehicle specific. There's no torx bolts holding my seats down, in my '95 S-10, but I guess that's really the only difference other than the fact that mine is also an automatic... just wanted to point that out real quick... nice work though.

IIRC, the bench seat in my 2000 has one torx bolt (T55?) holding it in in the center, right below where the seatbelts are attached to the seat.

And they loctite and torque the heck out of it at the factory for you, so have a breaker bar and a friend handy.

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

A good place to buy replacement carpet is from LMC catalog...

I know for my 2000 regular cab, they only want 125$ for the premolded carpet...

here is the link to the company......

Good luck, and nice how-to, looks great.

Re: How To: Clean/ Replace your carpet

Personally, I would go one step further and after you pressure washed it use a carpet cleaner on it(if you have one). With an attachment scrub brush sort of deal.

Good How To.
