How long should I run an ozone generator?

I went to a nearby rental place today to rent a steamer and discovered that they also rented ozone generators.

Since my truck smells like a wet dog every time it is humid outside (the previous owner owned a dog) I thought that a little treatment with an ozone generator may help to kill the smell. I also shampooed my carpets and seats today (MAN were they dirty!) and in doing so I must have pulled some of the dog smell back to the surfaces because it is a little stronger now.

Judging from the ones that the rental place sells, they pump out 150 to 625 mg per hour.

Do any of you know how many hours I would run one a unit of this size in my cab? I read that if they run too long that they can turn plastic surfaces black. Additionally, I will be charged by the hour so it would be nice to know how long I will be renting it for.

Thanks!

as long as it takes for the smell to get out, at wrk we run them at least 6 hrs, but i would try 2 or 4 first since your paying by the hr, when your done tho make sure you open all the windows and the two doors to get rid of all the bacteria floating around

Re: How long should I run an ozone generator?

Thanks for the reply.

The smell really is not too bad right now. It is pretty slight even when it is humid. I just miss my S10 where I got a nice whiff of that new car smell every time I opened the door. I know I won't get this back with the generator but at least that nasty wet dog odor will be gone.

I was wondering 2 things. One- how do I know when it is "done". I mean won't it just smell like ozone if I stick my nose in there? Two- I was reading that you should run the fan on the AC to help the ozone circulate through the vents. How could I possibly do that for 2-6 hours? Obviously it would not be feasible to run the engine for that long!

Thanks again!

Re: How long should I run an ozone generator?

we dont run it w/ the car on that would just be a huge waste of gas, just spray some form of order terminator down all of the vents and carpets, also you might be able to get away w/ only using for just an hr if its not that bad of a smell- you'll know when your down if after the ozone smell is out (usually like ten min) the dog smell will be out to. also if its going to cost you more than 55 to rent it, it might be cheaper to have a detail shop run it cuz it would be under 65 and they should garentee the smell gone
