How long does it take you to wax?
... your truck that is. I believe the time it takes me, anywhere from 4-6 hours, is unusually long. I don't use a buffer (too hard around curves/corners), and usually work by myself.
How long does it take you all to do it? I'm talking about a real waxing here, not that quick spray as you dry wax. Yesterday it took me 4 and a half hours! ![]() |

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
do yourself a favor and don't get a cheapie buffer from wal-mart. they achieve decent results, but not the same as a da polisher will. spend the money if you want your truck to look it's best. why fix your truck up and then use a half ass cleaning machine from wal-mart? do it right the first time and it will look better longer. it usually takes me 3-4 hours to do just the outside of my truck. i wash, claybar (maybe twice a year), buff any scratches out with a rotary buffer and a cutting pad, polish, then two coats of a GOOD wax. i usually put one coat on and then give it time to cure, and then the next day put another coat of wax on. i usually do this procedure once every 1 or 2 months and wash about once or twice a week. liquid wax is usually good for a month and paste wax is suppose to hold up for three or four months. just my opinion though!

I'm thinking about picking up one of those polishers from Wal-Mart soon and doing that up. |

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
You don't see nothin wrong, because u have never used a real buffer on it. i felt the same way until i got a good porter cable DA Polisher. now i wouldn't use a walmart buffer on my truck if u gave me $100. Just my opinion though.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
About 2 hours for me. And that's one coat of Turtle Wax. The very next day, my ride is covered in dust.
I practically have to dust it off every day. ****in' dust bowl here. |

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
For me it's never ending. . .I wash it, clay bar it, rinse it again, wax it, and even when I'm done waxing it for hours one day. . .in a couple more I'll go at it again. . .then continue with spray wax. . .until the cycle all starts over again.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
it usually takes me 2 hours start to finish. i also would recomend the california car duster. if you dust every day, you can go much longer between washes, which will prolong wax life.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
Yeah I just picked up the california car duster last week. At first it scared the shit out of me because I used it and all of a sudden it looks like it left TONS of scratches but come to find out its just excess wax it left on. I guess after a few uses this dosen't happen. So I'm trying to slowly break it in more so it dosen't leave wax everywhere. |

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
The car duster is pretty sweet. I used to wash my car twice a week before the duster, but now I can usually go every two weeks and keep it looking pretty good.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
Wow I have never even waxed mine before. I just used that wax as u dry stuff and works fine for me. I just don't see me outside for 10-12 hours cleaning my truck. I can do my whole outside of the truck, engine, interior, and clean off the frame and suspension some in like 3-4 hours and mine looks just fine.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
Damn 1 hour for you guys? Is that using a buffer or something? And what kind of wax do you use? It takes me forever to apply it, then wait and wipe it off on each section.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
To apply the wax I use a buffer with sponge pad, remove by hand with micro fiber cloth, then the final step is to finish buffing with the buffer and micro fiber buffing pad.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
I usually spend 5 a day for 2 days when I wash and wax. I usually after it rains use new finish to take care of what the nasty acid rain has done to the hood and roof which takes some time but does a good job. Then I apply 2 coats of turtle wax ultra shine wax. Then on my wheels I use mothers aluminum wheel polish then go over that with the same turtle wax stuff. The tires get dressed 1 time each day (the second to help make it last longer over a week). On my trim I use the same tire dressing (the turtle wax tire stuff).
Under the hood I usually armor all my hoses and stuff to make them look all new and clean the rest of the engine with WD-40. |

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
usually a wash/wax is a 4 hour or more event for me if Im using liquid wax... soon as I start getting some more hours, Im taking mine to a paint shop and having them buff out all the little scrapes, scratches, and nasty shit that cause me so much headache when I wash, because Im forever finding new ones.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
Takes me about 2 hrs.-2 1/2 hours. I do my truck section by section and use Zymol Wax (some good sh*t). When all finished, the paint is like glass with no orange peel.

Re: How long does it take you to wax?
it takes me about 4-5 hours. first wash then i touch up my paint and buff out any scratches and then do the 3 step wax. I use meguirs with terry cloth towls. I suggest finding a dual action polisher that way its not as fast as buffer so you dont burn your paint.
