How long before I can wax

I'm in the process of having my trucks cab corner passenger side replaced and taking care of some bubbling on the bottom of the 3rd door. How long can I wait until I can wax. I put 2 coats of some wax on the whole truck last week cuz I knew I wouldn't be able to wax for a while but I'm just wondering how long.

Don't ever use dish soap unless you are planning to wax the truck right after as it strips the wax away.

Buy some handglaze if you want to wax it that bad. Hand glaze is 100% safe for new paints. I am wanting to say that my paint shop told me 90 days before wax but I could be mistaken. Painttoad will probably find this thread, he can lead you the right direction.

Re: How long before I can wax

i always tell my customers 90 days cause that is the typical dry time for the clear coat to fully cure. there right about the dish soap and glaze.

Re: How long before I can wax

90 before wax,and i've been using dawn on fresh paint for years.

yes,it will remove wax on old paint, and that is exactly why i use it on fresh paint,it will remove compound COMPLETELY after buffing so you can see if it is totally buffed out and it will remove polish so you can make sure your swirl marks are removed, not filled.

after polishing is done the car goes to the cleanup guy and he uses some kind of car wash soap concentrate on it.

its pretty much... when the paint stops beading, then you can wax it

I didn't mean it would hurt paint, but just don't use it on a regular basis otherwise you are just stripping off that wax job that you put so much time and effort in to.

Re: How long before I can wax

Ill take ur guys advise on 90 days before waxing just as long as i can wash it ill be happy. How long before i can wash it and i wont/dont use dish soap. the guy i had the work done through said about 2 weeks and my truck is black and it shows everything so it will be nasty in 2 weeks time. I just dont like a dirty truck period let alone my own.

Re: How long before I can wax

sometimes i just use hot water and clean mitt. i never ever ever set my mitt on the ground or anything like that. it would pick up stones and scrath the paint. but hot water and no soap works good for me... ill probably get flamed for doing that though... oh well

Yep.

Pretty much all you need to know is...

Wait 90 days to wax, use hand glaze now if you really want to shine it up. Hand glaze is safe for fresh paint.

Wash as you normally would. I would stay away from dish soap and other harsh cleaners though. Regular old carwash and clean water is fine.

After your 90s days is up wash it with some dish soap if you want (gets the paint really really clean but essentially leaves no protection), then wax it up all nicely.

Re: How long before I can wax

i still tell customers 90 days, but a little secret...that 90 days would be at a constant 70 degrees...in the winter time i'll give people a specific month when they can wax....funny,i didn't have this problem in daytona...

now you have booth clears (which i haven't used) that are getting closer to manufacturer procedure, that are designed to be baked.i'm sure those type clears could be waxed much sooner.

Re: How long before I can wax

Friend had some paint repairs done on his Esprit and they told him to wait 6 months before sealing it with Zaino...otherwise the paint would never fully cure...I'm sure it all comes down to type of paint, application process, and temperature....90 days seems like a good minimum to wait.

Try the yellow pages. I guarantee you'll find one or more faster in there than on here.

Re: How long before I can wax

i would assume hand glaze can be bought at any auto parts store right? and if the paint is already due to be clayed since it has been sprayed (fvckin iowa) will i be safe or should i just wash it as good as i can and wait?
