Black is the ****
No color looks better when its clean. To keep it without swirls, I say make sure you use good wash mits and a nice Chamois. I use Absorbers. Try using the mothers clay bar, some polish, and a nice wax job. Thats what im going to do when the weather heats up more. |

Yeah, it looks great when it's clean. But it only stays clean for 20 minutes. Anyway, this is what I did:
I went to the auto parts store and bought the mothers claybar system and mothers 3 step wax program thing (i only bought the first 2 steps because the claybar system comes with wax.) I did the first step which is supposed to remove the old wax from your truck, then i did the claybar system, then i did the second step from the 3 step deal, then i waxed it and it looked awesome. You can try that if you want. Wash it and dry it first. It took me 4 hours by myself. |

the key to a smooth finish is the clay--IMHO. even a brand new car has some form a crap in the paint. merely rubbing your hand across the finish will not reveal all the junk--if you think your paint is smooth, take the plastic wrapping off a cigarette box, put it over your fingers, then feel your paint... i think you will be shocked.
everyone has their desired method of waxing... i personally do not like wax... i have been using zaino for about 5 years now, and there is nothing else i would use today... the results seem hard to get at first, but in the end it's the easiest stuff in the world to use. it's totally non-abrassive... 99.9% perfectly clear... has UV40 protection... smells great... and you can put the polish on in direct sunlight if you want. be sure to use the clay bar before whichever method you go with.... i use the blue bar from clay magic. you can find it a paint stores--do not use the red bar. |

clay
no the clay wont wear at the paint, because your not even really hitting the paint. your removing chemical fallout, that is on the surface of the paint that is to small to see for the naked eye. even after you clay your still not to the paint of the vehicle totally, close but not there. cause the only way to remove all fallout etc, is to heat up the surface to generate enough heat to actually take off the dirty paints, in small qualities, refered to as mills of paint and get to the new layer

you use a lubricant when you use the clay bar. i use a little zaino car wash and water... but you can buy clay bar lub -- you do not want to press the clay into the paint -- instead you just want to glide the clay over the car.
as the lubbed clay bar slides across the surface, embedded dirt will scratch the clay... and gets stuck to it... then pulled off the car. |

lights
u take a clear plastic cleaner and polish, meguiars and then the best way is to hook it up to a micro pad kit that can get attached to a drill. great for the head lights, make them brand new
