HELP! Chrome/billet grille has nasty green oxidization!!!

So I have an aftermarket chrome GMC grille shell ('91-93 style) with the billet insert...and I let it sit for about 4 years (truck was parked for 3, in another province) and when I finally went to get it...it's looking rough. Has green oxidization all over it. (Might be pitted too, but I'm not thinking about that right now).

It pretty much looks like it has nasty green mold on it...any ideas as to how to remove it? I tried water/cloth and then cloth/chrome polish...it has HELPED, but hasn't completely gotten rid of the problem.

Thanks

are you speaking from experience? I have a feeling steel wool would scuff the shit out of it....

you have to use fine grade steel wool... and lightly go over the billet. you dont have to really press down that hard. use it with either windex or a chrome polish...

the billet is actually not all that bad (it's hazy...but no green mold)...it's the chromed plastic that's really wrecked...

Re: HELP! Chrome/billet grille has nasty green oxidization!!!

your best bet might be to just get a new grill. My daily's chrome grill is doing the same thing, and considering the grill is 1 year old it really pissed me off. To try and clean it up, i removed the green oxidation with soft rag and some chrome polish.. but the unfortunate part was on mine every spot where there was a good bit of that green crap the chrome plating was eatin away down to the bare plastic.

You can get a new aftermarket grill for pretty cheap (around $60), probally the better route to go then to try restoring that one, especially if it's pitted.

000 steel wool wont scratch or mess up the metal, you can even use it on the outside of your glass to get rid of sap, overspray, etc, but for plastic "chrome" i dont think there is a way to 100% fix it, either sand it down to bare plastic and paint or buy a new one
